GOP town chief says state caucus numbers incorrect

Ron Paul lost in Nye County, but not by much.

The state Nevada Republican Party Web site showing results for the party's Jan. 19 caucus has the wrong numbers for Nye County, according to John Timmerman of the Nye County Republican Central Committee.

Going to the party's Web site will accurately show Mitt Romney's win and Ron Paul's close second-place standing, but as the saying goes, the devil is in the details. At the local level, the details are screwed up.

The GOP's Web site results indicate 1,226 Republican voters went to the caucuses in Nye County.

But according to the Republican Central Committee's straw poll results (which are broken down by precinct), Nye County had 1,273 voters in caucus.

"Those results were audited five times by five different people," Timmerman said. "The state has the wrong numbers."

Timmerman explained that the state was aware its numbers were wrong but would not change them until its own accountant conducts a voter audit.

Those wrong numbers naturally filter into other parts of the breakdown as well.

For example, the Web site shows Romney losing to Paul in Nye County, with the former receiving 399 votes and Paul receiving 415.

But according to the straw poll results, Romney won in Nye County with 408 votes and Paul received 405 votes.

Calls to the GOP higher-ups in the state were not returned. The official state party Web site is www.nvgopcaucus.com/results.
