The Pahrump Valley Junior Varsity wrestling team, assisted by some varsity regulars, dominated the Nye County Championships Wednesday, winning all nine individual titles.

The tournament, staged in the Ninth Grade Academy gym, had a limited field, with Tonopah missing Cody Serfoss and Kevin Valentine and Round Mountain having a couple boys absent for various reasons. Beatty and Gabbs do not have teams.

There were no team standings, but PV wrestlers lost only four matches in three rounds of competition.

Elliott Owens, who is the Pahrump Valley varsity's 103-pound starter, won that weight class. Jordan Cutter of Round Mountain was second, with Jet Tisue of Tonopah third.

At 112, Joe Hallenback was first, with Travis Haines of the Trojans second and Round Mountain's Robert McCluskey third.

Josh Armendariz, another PV varsity starter, was the 119 winner. Tonopah's Robert Ashby and Chris Brown finished 2-3, respectively.

Paul Miller, who has started several varsity matches this season, was first at 130. Teammate Wes Booth was second, with Tonopah's Kris Johnson third.

Gueran Fenicle was first at 135-140, with Round Mountain's James Browning second and fellow Knight Doug Kehoe third.

Kyle Abreu was first at 145, with Tonopah's Thomas Pearson second and Round Mountain's Justin Acosta third.

Travis Linsday of the Trojans was first at 160, with teammates Steve Schmidt second and Seth Kessler fourth. Tonopah's Drew McLeod was third.

Robert Aker of PVHS won the 171 title. Round Mountain's Garrett Snider was second; Samuel Fildes of PVHS was third, and Josh Stedeford of the Trojans was fourth.

Taylor Gourley won the 189-heavyweight title, with Tonopah's Zac Seward second.

The Pahrump Valley varsity wrestles in its main gym Wednesday to complete the Southern Nevada Class 3-A League dual-meet season. The Trojans will wrestle Overton Moapa Valley at 4 p.m. and Las Vegas Faith Lutheran at 5. Faith and Moapa will start the day's action at 3 p.m.

On Feb. 2, the Southern regionals will be hosted by Pahrump Valley, with the tournament starting at 11 a.m.

The top three in each of the 14 weight classes advance to the state tournament. The top five finishers from the Northern 3-A meet will complete the eight-wrestler brackets.

The 3-A state tournament, incidentally, will be only one day -- Feb. 9 -- at Moapa Valley High School in Overton. The first match will start at 9 a.m., after opening ceremonies at 8:45 a.m.
