Fishing Report
EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR The reservoir is covered with six to eight inches of ice and fishing pressure is low. Those braving the cold are being rewarded with limits of rainbow trout. Park Supervisor Pete Gill described the fishing as fair to good. Fish are biting on worms and PowerBait. ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR Warming temperatures have made ice conditions unsafe for anglers, especially around the edges where open water can be found in the mid-day hours. Use extreme caution. LAKE MEAD Alex Riebe, a local 16-year old reeled in a 20-pound, 3-ounce striped bass while fishing with an AC Plug during a recent tournament at Lake Mead, and word is that he was just nudged out for biggest fish. A 13-pound fish was reportedly caught near Hemenway following a recent trout plant. Boaters are still netting fish in the Las Vegas Wash area while anglers have been finding slow fishing along the beaches. The fish taken near the beaches have been small. Shad have been difficult to find so most anglers are fishing with cut bait and chumming with corn or anchovies. Trout anglers found good fishing after the Nevada Department of Wildlife's recent stocking efforts. Several anglers caught their limits of plump rainbows. LAKE MOHAVE Warmer temperatures have increased the number of anglers fishing near Willow Beach though fishing continues to be slow. Fishermen have been able to see stocked rainbows swimming in the water, but unable to goad them into taking their bait. Boat anglers haven't found their luck to be any better though one angler told the department creel clerk that his friend, Philip Wright pulled in 25.38-pound striper while casting a homemade swim bait near mile marker 52. Anglers fishing out of Cottonwood are reporting slow fishing conditions. A variety of fish species can be seen in the water, but the fish show no inclination to take bait. LAUGHLIN Fishing for planter rainbows has been good below Davis Dam where water temperatures are cool year round. WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA Ice conditions are unsafe for anglers. Waterfowl hunters may find good hunting by jump shooting along the creeks and sloughs. URBAN PONDS Anglers have been finding good fishing for stocked rainbow trout. The fish don't seem to be as picky as they were early on and are taking PowerBait, worms, flies, small Kastmasters and white crappie jigs. |
