PV girls 2-1 in 3-A, after big win over the Pirates

OVERTON -- The hot-shooting Pahrump Valley girls won 57-28 against Moapa Valley here Tuesday, in Southern Nevada Class 3-A League basketball. The Lady Trojans overcame 36 turnovers by shooting 50 percent from the field and outrebounding the Pirates 44-13, as they moved their 3-A record to 2-1 and their season's mark to 18-7. Pahrump Valley played 3-A rival Boulder City Thursday and today will be at home against Las Vegas Faith Lutheran (6 p.m.). The PV girls got rolling early, taking a 7-0 lead. The Pirates tied it at 7-7 before Pahrump Valley control with an 18-5 run to gain 25-12 halftime lead. After falling behind 30-14 early in the third period, the Pirates mounted their final challenge, closing the gap to 32-20. Pahrump Valley went on a 15-1 spurt to put the game beyond reach. Senior post Megan Meads led the Trojans with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Guard Brittney Lindgren hit four 3-point pointers and had 14 points. Senior guards Marie Taylor and Courtney Salmon each chipped in with eight points. Brittany Orr had a team high seven assists while Alyson Kunzi led with five steals. The Trojans were 15-for-28 on 2-point shots and hit 7 of 16 3-point attempts against the Pirates (9-for-46 overall, 19.5 percent). The Trojans had 20 assists on their 22 field goals. NOTES -- The Pahrump Valley girls, through 25 games, were averaging 51.8 points per game, while allowing 38.0 ... They were outrebounding opponents 35-19 per game and had 338 assists on 520 field goals ... Megan Meads (14.0 points, 8.0 rebounds) is their individual statistical leader ... Senior guards Brittany Orr and Brittney Lindgren are combining for 11.5 points 5.3 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 3.5 steals per game ... Junior post Kristi Daffer is at 8.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game ... Backup post Casey Scheller is averaging 5.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game ...
