HELPING OUT

Pahrump rallied to help one of its own Thursday, Jan. 17, when more than 15 organizations and dozens of volunteers from the community put on a spaghetti benefit dinner and cake auction for the family of Daniel Murphy II to help pay for his medical expenses. Hundreds of people attended the dinner and bid on cakes, one of which sold for $200. Roughly $9,000 was raised. "We are so thankful we live in Pahrump," said Don Murphy, Daniel's mother. Daniel's father, Danny Murphy, "didn't realize how much love that's in this town." In November, 2007 Daniel Murphy, a fourth-grade student at JG Johnson was seriously injured when his all-terrain-vehicle collided with a sand rail. He was in a pediatric intensive care unit for 25 days and rehabilitation for 10 more days. Carrying a cake to be auctioned is Lori Ince.
