Deputies nab Hare in desertOf all the ways to attempt escaping from a crime scene, driving drunk and soliciting rides from strangers are probably among the least effective. That's what Jeremiah Hare, 26, found out on Tuesday, Jan. 22 when he was arrested for a host of charges after allegedly battering two women, including his mother, Patricia Hare, and then attempting to flee by stealing his mother's car. According to a sheriff's office press release, Jeremiah Hare was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with his mother, Patricia Hare, at a residence on West Wilson Road during which he struck her on the head with a closed fist. Amanda Cozad, also at the residence, reportedly attempted to diffuse the situation when Jeremiah Hare allegedly threw a glass cup at her, causing her to fall to the ground, hit her head, and lose consciousness. Jeremiah Hare than threatened to kill Patricia Hare with a rife for being a witness to multiple crimes currently under investigation by the Street Crimes unit, the sheriff's office press release stated. By the time deputies arrived at the scene of the domestic dispute, Jeremiah Hare had already fled by stealing his mother's sports utility vehicle. He didn't get very far, however, and before long rolled the vehicle over in the desert after striking a mailbox near Bannavitch Street. Surviving the rollover, Jeremiah Hare continued his attempt to go on the lam by "attempting to get a ride from a white van passing by, only to be walking again seconds later," the sheriff's office press release stated. Undaunted and determined to get away, Hare then approached a Nye County Animal Control officer and asked him for a ride because he had just rolled his vehicle. At this point, sheriff's office Det. David Boruchowitz, Dep. Williams, and Deputy Jonas arrived and spoke with Jeremiah Hare. While speaking with Boruchowitz, Hare reportedly admitted to drinking a fifth of vodka before the batteries occurred. After being transported to the Nye County Detention Center, Hare submitted to a field sobriety test which he failed and according to the press release blew well over the legal limit of .08 percent on a breathalyzer test. Sheriff's office Dep. Otteson, Dep. John Kakavulias, and Dep. Back arrived at the scene of the rollover where Otteson found the front half of a Ruger 10/22 .22-caliber rifle amongst the wreckage (according to the press release, this is the rifle Jeremiah had threatened to kill his mother with). Later, Kakavulias found the stock of the rife as well as a handful of .22-caliber ammunition scattered inside the vehicle. Adding to the growing list of charges Hare accumulated from the incident, the plates of the stolen vehicle were run revealing it's registration had expired in 2007. Hare was booked on charges of domestic battery, intimidating a witness, battery with substantial bodily harm, harassment, driving with expired registration, grand larceny auto, possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of an accident. His bail was set at $62,470. This isn't the first time Hare attempted to escape from the sheriff's office. In February of last year the sheriff's office issued a B.O.L.O. alert for him after he allegedly kidnapped Jennie Lee Tedford. Tedford was found bruised but not seriously injured shortly after the incident walking alone on the road. In addition, Hare is one of the many suspects being investigated by the sheriff's office for possible involvement in a large-scale burglary ring. |
