Zlotek to run for judge
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
Nye County Senior Deputy District Attorney Marla Zlotek has entered the race for Department 1 Fifth District Court Judge. "I encourage the public to examine my qualifications, experience, reputation, and character," Zlotek said. Zlotek began her career in Nye County in 1995 as a deputy district attorney for the criminal division. Her duties included reviewing Nye County Sheriff's Office reports, drafting criminal complaints, prosecuting misdemeanor trials, preliminary hearings, and jury trials. In 2001, Zlotek began working for the civil division by rendering legal opinions to the county commissioners and officers and representing the county in civil forfeiture and employment arbitration cases. From 2006 until the present, Zlotek has been the senior deputy district attorney for the county civil division. All of which, Zlotek said, has prepared her to be Nye County's next Fifth District Judge. "My duties as senior deputy district attorney are primarily in the civil area of the district attorney's office," Zlotek said. "However, if the need arises, my experience in criminal and juvenile prosecutions allows me to lend a hand if needed." Zlotek graduated cum laude from Loyola Law School in New Orleans, sixth in a class of 239 students. She has taught dual credit classes in business law, juvenile justice system and the legal system at the Community College in Southern Nevada. Since 2002, she has also been an instructor at the Nye County Regional Police Academy. "I have been married for 22 years and our daughter is a second-year law student at (University of Nevada, Las Vegas) Honors College," Zlotek said. "I will continue to serve the public by be willing, able, and ready to travel throughout the three counties." Zlotek will be running against incumbent Judge John Davis and Nye County District Attorney Bob Beckett. |
