For road-weary Pahrump Valley fans, are you ready for some basketball, home style?

After six weeks of road trips -- to Bishop, Calif., to River Valley, Ariz., and to Las Vegas, and many other stops in between -- Trojan fans can break out their maroon-and-gold gear and head on down to the PVHS gym Thursday, when Boulder City visits for a Southern Nevada Class 3-A League doubleheader.

Tipoff is at 3 p.m. for the JV twin bill; at 6 p.m., the Lady Trojans entertain the Eagles, with the boys' tipoff at about 7:30 p.m.

In fact, four of Pahrump Valley's last five league twin bills will be played in the friendly confines of the reconstructed PVHS gym.

Which is of critical importance to both the girls and boys teams, who were 17-7 and 12-11, respectively, going into a Southern twin bill at Overton Moapa Valley Tuesday night.

Pahrump Valley's girls were 1-1, while the Trojan boys were 0-2, in their endeavors to qualify for the Southern regionals, to be played Feb. 14 and 16 at Del Sol High School in Las Vegas.

Only the top four teams advance to the regionals; contending for a playoff berth as well as an advantageous seed is infinitely less stressful when there isn't a long bus trip to face.

The trek to Overton left the Trojans with only one more -- to Boulder City Feb. 5 -- before the regionals.

Pahrump Valley has played its "home games" in the Ninth Grade Academy gym because of a massive gym reconstruction project that began in October and was completed Tuesday.

The Trojans will host Boulder City Thursday in a league twin bill starting at 6 p.m. Las Vegas Faith Lutheran will visit for a doubleheader Friday, with the tipoff again at 6 p.m.

The Trojans will be at home Feb. 1 when Banner Night, which honors Pahrump Valley's championship teams over the last year, is observed during a twin bill against Virgin Valley. On Feb. 8, the regular season closes with Moapa Valley the opposition.

Pahrump Valley's girls have been idle since defeating Pahranagat Valley Alamo 55-32 Jan. 15. The boys, who are at home against defending state Class A champion Las Vegas Trinity Christian Tuesday, last played Jan. 11 in a 60-43 loss to Virgin Valley.
