Joseph Edward Mutz

Joseph Edward Mutz, 83, passed away Jan. 13, 2008 in Pahrump.

He was born Dec. 13, 1924 in Joliet, Ill., and was a resident of Pahrump for three months, having come from Lafayette, La.

He was a member of KSKJ, a Slovenian/American Club and served in the Army during World War II when he was stationed on the Pacific front. He was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Illinois.

The retired millwright and carpenter liked to fish, play golf and work crossword puzzles. He had an affinity with children in that he loved them and they loved him.

He is survived by the mother of his children Sylvia Corzan of Pahrump; sons Harold Mark Mutz of Pahrump and Joseph Edward (Marcie) Mutz Jr. of Las Vegas; daughter Debra Jo (Michael) Howard of Lafayette, La.; brothers Bernard Mutz and Richard Mutz, both of Joliet, Ill.; three grandchildren Jennifer of Las Vegas, Joseph III of Oregon and Daniella of Louisiana; one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph P. and Ann Mutz, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Pahrump Family Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's for Children. (01/13/2008)

Roger Robert Traczyk

Roger Robert Traczyk, 64, passed away Jan. 3, 2008 at Porter Valparisio Hospital.

Roger was a lifelong resident of East Chicago until 1994.

He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and after a tour of service in the Marines, he started a career as a firefighter. He later transferred to the East Chicago Police Department and retired in 1988.

He owned My House Lounge in East Chicago until he moved to Nevada. Later, he returned to the area and settled near Plymouth, Ill.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 59, Club KiYowga, Goodfellows and the American Legion Post 369.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his retirement traveling with his wife and visiting his children and grandchildren.

His devoted wife Bonita Traczyk, daughters Jennifer (PJ) Klocek and Tiffany (James) Caruso; granddaughter Ashley Rose; extended family Jerome D. (Stephanie) Wozniak, Debbie (Darren) Wozniak, Lorraine (Dave) Adams, Michelle (Cady) Wozniak and Cheryl Wozniak; father-in-law Joseph C. Wagner Sr.; sister-in-laws Terri (Glen) Yurgil and Rose (Phil) Shanta; brother-in-law Jody Wagner; 11 grandchildren and many other dear relatives and friends survive him.

He was preceded in death by son Jeffrey R. Traczyk; parents Ann (nee Berkowicz) Traczyk and Leon Traczyk and brothers Richard Traczyk and Timothy Newell.

Services were handled by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, Schererville, Ind.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Center for Cancer Care in Goshen, Ind., care of the Funeral Home. (01/03/2008)

Memorial Service for Walter J. Hoppe

Dr. Walter J. Hopppe, a prominent and popular local physician, passed away Dec. 21, 2007 in the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing, Mich., after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

There will be a memorial service for Hoppe at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 25 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 781 E. Gamebird Road.

Hoppe was born April 18, 1940 in Alpena, Mich., and received his medical degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing. He practiced in St. Johns, Mich., as the medical director of the St. Rose Dominican Clinic prior to arriving in Pahrump in 1995 at Pahrump Medical Center.

He left there in 1997 and returned to Michigan where he set up a private practice. In 2002, Hoppe returned to his beloved desert and the Town of Pahrump and went into private practice with Dr. Dennis Campton at the Desert Trails Medical Center.

In 2006, Hoppe moved to Winnemucca, where he was the medical director for Newmark Gold Co.

Hoppe loved the desert and cherished dearly his time here serving the people of Pahrump. (12/21/2007)

Cynthia Renee Boykin

Cynthia Renee Boykin, 49, passed away Jan. 18, 2008 in Pahrump.

She was born April 15, 1958 in Downey, Calif., and was a 21-year resident of Pahrump, having come from Oregon.

She went to a trade school where she studied cosmetology; and she was a homemaker.

Her husband Terry D. Boykin of Pahrump; daughter Erica L. (Tim) Murphy of Pahrump; sons Jason A. (Ginger) Harris, Joshua J.J. (Nicole) Boykin of Idaho and Brandon M. (Kandace) Boykin of Texas and 10 grandchildren survive her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24 at Pahrump Family Mortuary. (01/18/2008)

Mary Gwin

Mary Gwin, 75, passed away Jan. 21, 2008 in Pahrump.

She was born Sept. 27, 1922 in Oklahoma.

Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her life was dedicated to God, her family and her friends. Not a day went by she did not testify of the Lord's love.

She was a woman who not only did the twist, but who also lighted up every dark room with her radiant personality. Mary was a true blessing to her family and to all her friends, coast to coast, from many travels.

Mary will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Due to her relationship with Jesus Christ, her life was truly a light to others.

She is survived by her husband Francis Gwin; daughter Sheri Goss; grandchildren David Goss and Tana Goss; great-grandchildren Aliyah Goss and Jazlyn Mary Goss and a sister Lea Nelson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26 at Choice Hill Baptist Church, 340 W. Mesquite Ave. Pastor Carl England Jr. will present.

William Carrington Richland

William Carrington Richland, 82, passed away Jan. 1, 2008.

He was born March 27, 1925 in Buffalo, N.Y., and was an eight year resident of Pahrump, having come from Henderson.

He was employed as a research assistant by Aerospace Group, had a 12 year education and was a veteran of the U.S. Marines.

He is survived by lots of loving family members and friends.
