BEATTY AT HOME TONIGHT Pahrump Valley to play three Southern games
By BRIAN KUNZI
Pahrump Valley High School girls basketball coach Bob Hopkins hoped the disappointing loss to Mesquite Virgin Valley last week would be a wake-up call for his team. The Lady Trojans did not disappoint, as they responded with a dominating performance Tuesday night at Pahrangrat Valley Alamo with a 55-32 victory. After giving up an opening basket, the Lady Trojans, 17-7, went on a 10-0 run and were never challenged by the Panthers, 12-5. A 3-point basket by the Panthers led to another 10-point spurt and a comfortable 20-5 lead for the Trojans, who cruised to a 33-13 halftime advantage. The Lady Trojans hit the Panthers from all angles as eight players scored at least four points. Kristi Daffer led with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Megan Meads and Casey Scheller added eight points each for the Trojans, who were 14-for-18 from the free-throw line. Brittany Orr had a team-high four assists. Brittney Lindgren and Alyson Kunzi led the team with four steals each. Wednesday night, the Pahrump Valley boys, plagued by foul trouble, lost 51-47 to Alamo. The boys fell to 12-11, with their third straight loss. The basketball squads return to action with three Southern Nevada Class 3-A League contests next week. First up is a road trip to Overton Moapa Valley on Tuesday. The Trojans are at home Thursday and Friday nights against Boulder City and Faith Lutheran, respectively. The game Thursday will be the first in the main high school gym; the reconstruction project is to be completed Monday. Through 24 games, the PV girls have outscored opponents 1,237 to 921 (51.5 to 38.7) and is outrebounding them 35 to 20 per game. In games played through Wednesday, the Moapa Valley girls, coached by Jordan Adams, were 10-10, 0-1 league, while coach Mike Strong's boys are 8-11, 1-0 league. The MV girls lost 36-31 to Mesquite Virgin Valley, while the Pirates edged Virgin Valley 47-46 in a boys' shootout. . Beatty will be at home today, taking on Nevada Class A Central Division rival Indian Springs, starting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the Hornets travel to Lund for another division doubleheader, starting at 2:30 p.m. Pahrump Valley's wrestlers are in Bullhead City, Ariz., today and Saturday for the Mohave Duals.
