Fishing report

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR

Anglers have been pulling trout through the ice at this Lincoln County reservoir.

Local anglers have had success fishing worms a couple of cranks off the bottom to keep the bait away from determined crawdads.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

The reservoir is covered with ice, but warm daytime temperatures melt the ice along the edges.

Some anglers have found themselves having to jump from ice to the shoreline because the ice melted behind them. Use extreme caution.

LAKE MEAD

Fishing has been slow for much of the past week though good fishing for school-size striped bass continues in the Las Vegas Bay arm.

Shad have become difficult to catch so anglers may have to use anchovies or sardines instead.

Anglers found some success for rainbow trout stocked by the Nevada Department of Wildlife, but the plant did little to encourage the striper bite. There were some small stripers reeled in along the Hemenway area during the nighttime hours.

LAKE MOHAVE

Improved weather conditions has increased the number of anglers casting in the Willow Beach area, but overall fishing pressure remains low. Stocked rainbows are on the bite again, with fish being caught along the shoreline near the hatchery outflow.

One angler reeled in a 20-inch, 3-pound bow -- measured and weighed -- that hammered a "Fire Tiger spinner bait."

Boat anglers found the rout fishing to be very good just downstream of Willow Beach at about mile marker 52. Super Dupers and Little Jakes lures fooled the fish.

Striper fishing, on the other hand, continues to be slow for anglers using everything from AC Plugs to anchovies.

Fishing continues to be poor to fair for both shore and boat anglers in the Cottonwood Cove area. Most boat anglers have been skunked though one angler found some success near mile marker 31 by trolling anchovies in 15 to 30 feet of water.

LAUGHLIN

Stocked rainbow trout have been providing good action for anglers fishing on the Colorado River near Laughlin. The fish have been taking mini marshmallows, spinners, flies and PowerBait.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

Reservoirs on the management area are covered with ice, but warming temperatures and moving water below the ice have created unsafe ice fishing conditions.

URBAN PONDS

With the holiday season and associated vacations behind us, the number of anglers fishing at the urban ponds has dropped.

Those who are fishing have been catching stocked rainbows with Chartreuse PowerEggs, rainbow PowerBait, silver spinners and flies.

Catch and release anglers using bait are encouraged to dispense with the treble hooks and go to a single barbless hook to make the release easier for them and the fish.
