Library calendar

The Pahrump Community Library is located at 701 East Street, and is hosting the following events in January:

Computer classes are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and include introduction to computers, beyond basics, Internet and email and genealogy. Times vary and sign-up must be in person at the library. No sign-ups by phone. Classes are free and space is limited.

Model train

The model train enthusiasts will meet at 9 a.m., Jan. 18 at the United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Hwy. 372.

Family to Family Calendar

The January class schedule for Family to Family Connection, 160 S. Emery, is as follows:

Jan. 18 -- Foster parent support group, 1 p.m.

Jan. 21 -- Closed for Martin Luther King Day.

Jan. 22 -- Infant and child CPR, 1 p.m., registration required.

Jan. 25 -- Early intervention explore and learn play group, 11 a.m.

Jan. 29 -- Ages to stages developmental screening. Call for appointment.

The Back to Basics Parenting class is at 3 p.m. every Wednesday (parents with children birth to 5 years old).

Play group is at 1 p.m. every Thursday.

Resource Lending Library is open from 9- 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Casting call

Actors and production people needed for the PAC musical, "The Spitfire Grill."

Show dates are in March, rehearsals are in progress.

We need a male baritone singer who can act. There are a small number of lines and great songs.

Also needed are costume coordinator, stage manager, makeup artist and light crew.

Caregiver support group

The Caregiver Support Group is a new program developed by Nathan Adelson Hospice to relieve caregiver stress.

Participants will learn ways to identify and reduce the challenges in caring for loved ones with a life threatening illness.

Clelia Pinza Garrity, a social worker with over 25 years of hospice experience, will lead the group.

The first meeting is 2:30-3:30 p.m., Feb. 7 at the hospice, 1480 E. Calvada Blvd.

Looking for volunteers

The Pahrump Community Library is looking for mature individuals who are interested in joining the Volunteer Auxiliary Security Guard at the library.

Radio license test

Examinations for Amateur Radio licenses will be held at 1 p.m., Jan. 19 at the Nye County Offices of Emergency Management, 1510 Siri Lane.

Republican caucus

The Nye County Republican Party Central Committee will host the Republican Caucus and Precinct Meeting between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Jan. 19, at the Rosemary Clarke Middle School, 4201 N. Blagg Rd.

All Pahrump Valley registered Republicans only are welcome to attend and participate in the caucus presidential straw poll and the precinct meeting.

Those who wish to just vote in the caucus straw poll are welcome to do so and leave once they cast their votes.

Voting will be open from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.

Those who wish to participate in the precinct meeting are welcome to stay.

Women Entrepreneurs

A support/networking group for women who either own a business in Pahrump, or are interested in starting their own business will provide support from other entrepreneurs, information to help start/grow a business, classes, speakers, networking and a chance to socialize with like minded women.

The group will meet at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday evenings at Great Basin College, Room 107.

Vision impaired meeting

The monthly meeting of the Pahrump Chapter of Vision Impaired Persons will be at 1 p.m., Jan. 18 at the Pahrump Senior Center, 1370 W. Basin Road.

All interested parties are invited to attend.

These meetings provide interaction and information for individuals that have difficulty seeing or suffer from degenerative vision loss.

Learn how a legally blind person can obtain personal property tax relief, free telephone directory assistance, veteran assistance for those who have served active duty and perhaps additional VA compensation for service connected vision loss.

ARES Ham Radio class

The Amateur Radio Emergency Services is offering an introduction to Ham Radio via a ham cram class being offered starting at 8 a.m., Jan. 19, 1510 Siri Lane.

The class is for technician license only. A photo ID or two non-photo forms of identification and $14 is required to take the test which begins at 1 p.m.

Bring a lunch as a lunch break will occur around noon.

Fiber arts sampler

The Pahrump Arts Council will present a "Fiber Arts Sampler" 11-3 p.m., Jan. 26, at the Pahrump Valley Museum, 401 E. Basin Ave.

The program will feature Shadow Mountain Quilters demonstrating their skills and answering questions.

Finished products will be on display including the opportunity quilt made by the Shadow Mountain Quilters to benefit the PAC building fund. Tickets will be available for $1 each or 6 for $5.

There is only one day left before the Nevada Caucus.

Utilities Inc. ribbon cutting

Utilities, Inc. will be celebrating the start-up of the Mountain Falls wastewater treatment facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12 p.m., Jan. 18 at the facility site.

Women motorcyclists

A new group of women motorcyclists is forming. The first meeting will be at 1 p.m., Jan. 19 at the Subway on Highway 372, and they will continue to meet every third Thursday of the month.

The group plans to ride after the meeting, weather permitting.

Ms. Senior Nye County Pageant

The Ms. Senior Nye County Pageant for 2008 will be held April 4-5, Saddle West Hotel and Casino.

Any ladies at the elegant age of 60 plus may enter. Everyone has a talent and dancers, singers, comediennes or any other stage performances are welcome.

The winner of the pageant will continue to the Ms. Senior Nevada State Pageant to be held at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas at the end of August.

All People's Breakfast

The MLK committee will have the 6th annual All People's Breakfast scholarship fundraiser at 8:30 a.m., Jan. 21 at the Pahrump Nugget.

The breakfast is in honor of the late Martin Luther King Jr.

There will be a silent auction, raffles, entertainment and a wonderful breakfast.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Children 10 and under eat free.

The Pahrump Senior Center will be holding their Board of Trustees elections in January of 2008.

Rummage Sale

Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church will hold the quarterly rummage sale, 8-4 p.m., Feb. 1, and 8-1 p.m., Feb. 2 at the church, 1300 E. Hwy. 372 at the corner of Pahrump Valley Boulevard.

There will be craft and household items, new and used clothing, toys and games, linens and books, large and small appliances, home baked pies and cakes and soup and sandwiches will be available.

AGLOW meeting

Pahrump AGLOW will meet at 9:30 a.m., Jan. 19, Vineyard Rock Church, 1370 E. Matthew Lane (across from Snith's)

Master Gardeners
