TONOPAH -- Battle Mountain edged Mesquite Virgin Valley 206.5 to 205.5 in a showdown of Nevada high school wrestling powers in the High Desert Classic here last weekend.

Battle Mountain, a perennial Class 2-A title threat, edged the equally successful Class 3-A Bulldogs, as they left 17 rivals well out of contention in the tournament, held in the Tonopah High School gym Friday and Saturday.

Pahrump Valley's junior varsity scored 57 points and finished eighth. Another PVHS team had 17 points to place 15th.

Tonopah had 43 points and finished 10th.

Pahrump Valley's JVs will host the Nye County Championships Jan. 23, with Tonopah and Round Mountain varsity teams expected to compete. Beatty does not have wrestling this season.
