MESQUITE -- Pahrump Valley and Virgin Valley split their Southern Nevada Class 3-A League basketball games Tuesday night.

Tonight, the Trojans and Bulldogs clash here, with the girls teams trying to add on to their 1-0 starts and the boys hoping to avoid falling to 0-2 in the league.

Pahrump Valley's girls (16-6 in all games) won their league opener 57-35 at Las Vegas Faith Lutheran, while the Lady Bulldogs (17-2) outlasted neighborhood rival Overton Moapa Valley 36-31.

The PVHS boys (12-9, 0-1) lost at Faith Lutheran, where the defending league, regional and state champions prevailed 60-34. Virgin Valley lost a heartbreaker, 47-46 to the Pirates.

In the PVHS-Faith girls game, senior forward Megan Meads scored 16 points and freshman post Casey Scheller added 12, as the Trojans led 13-10, 31-12 and 47-25 at the quarters.

Megan Smith had 12 points and Seanie Peterson 11 for the Crusaders.

"We played good defense and we cut down on our turnovers," said coach Bob Hopkins, in analyzing the win.

Mike Amico fired in two 3-pointers within a minute to start the Faith Lutheran boys' conquest of the Trojans. Faith led 17-2, 34-11 and 49-15 at the breaks, as Diontea Wright had two big dunks among his 15 points. Amico finished with 11 points, including another trey.

Darius Dolly was 12-for-13 from the line and finished with 14 points for the Trojans. Marvin Weekly added eight points, with Tito Ceballos scoring seven.

"Faith has three players of the year in their lineup; what they did is no surprise," said Lonnie Shereck, the Trojans' coach. The three Faith standouts are Wright, Connor Maloney and point guard Max Done.
