The news that the superintendent of schools for Esmeralda County, as well as his school board, approved a letter asking Hispanic students to shut up unless they planned on speaking in English is almost medieval in its cruelty. Politics, thy name is Huckabee Nothing has been more instructive in modern American politics than Mike Huckabee's surge to victory in Iowa and semi-seriousness as a contender for the presidency. Let's call it 'Janus-faced observations' in political world WASHINGTON -- Like the Roman god Janus, from which this godforsaken month takes its name, the two parties' voters in two states have looked in different directions. After six months of intense campaigning, in just six transformative days Iowa spoke and contrarian New Hampshire said: On the other hand ... Mom's coffee must be prioritized on long trips Fewer people are smoking in the U.S. today. That results in a diminished need for built-in car lighters. Car manufacturers could have eliminated the lighter. But this is America. Therefore, instead of eliminating lighters, they were redesigned and renamed. Now, the latest sedans, utility vehicles, trucks, hatchbacks and sporty models come "equipped" with multiple auxiliary outlets. The Establishment vs. grass roots In my role as a cable television political analyst and as a political junkie, my take on the results in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary is simply this: The political establishment on both sides of the aisle took a punch in the nose.
