As of late, Pahrump has experienced several tribute bands performing songs of the stars. Hotel California rocked out the Eagles, Harmick cloned Tom Jones, Rob Garrett played Neil Diamond and now, "Johnny and June Carter Cash" are coming to town via Jimmie Ray and Cyndi Cantrell.

Jimmie Ray and Ring of Fire will perform beginning at 9 p.m., Jan. 12 and 13 at the Stagestop Lounge and Casino, 100 W. Stagecoach Road.

Jimmie Ray and Cyndi Cantrell have been entertaining for the last 14 years and when American roots legend, Johnny Cash, passed away four years ago this past September, Cantrell's deep voice and admiration of Cash led him to form the Ring of Fire Band. He said, "I've always been told I sound like Johnny Cash, I figured I might as well be him."

Since the death of Johnny Cash, millions have been added to his fan base. There have been record sales of CDs and videos and a revival to the movie "Walk the Line," a story of the legend's life.

Cyndi Cantrell is a musical talent in her own right to mime the voice and style of June Carter Cash among others.

Cantrell hand picked the five members of the band to assemble "some of the finest musicians and entertainers from around the country.

Two of the band members are locals. Greg Smith plays lead guitar and sings vocal harmonies, and Donnie Castleman plays bass. Both are from Pahrump. For this gig, the band will be joined by local musician Bob White on drums as well.

Cantrell said the band is looking for a permanent home. He said, "While we're trying to put down roots, we've been doing a little traveling and playing here and there. We've played the Nugget a couple of times."

The show this weekend is more like four shows rolled into one. Beginning at 9 p.m., the band will start the first set with Johnny Cash's biggest hits. The second set is what Cantrell calls the "Sun set," meaning the songs will be from Cash and all of his cronies at Sun Records. Those days included Carl Perkins and Elvis among others. Cyndi Cantrell will perform as June Carter Cash and sing tunes made famous by Patsy Cline.

The third set will be dedicated to Cash's favorites and the final set will be an encore.

"This is a musical journey performed from the heart," Cantrell said. "It starts in the Arkansas cotton fields and goes up to the last song he wrote and recorded."

That song was "Like the 309."
