DeCanio on ballot for JP
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
Louis DeCanio will be another choice added to the ballot for Pahrump's District II Justice of the Peace. DeCanio filed to run in the election Wednesday, Jan. 9, the second day of the two-week filing period. The former military policeman and Chicago bar operator is running on a simple platform of "equal justice for all." DeCanio ran in the 2006 election and garnered 442 votes but lost to incumbent Justice of the Peace Tina Brisebill. He joins Barry Waggoner in the election for the newly-formed position that was required by state law since Pahrump's population now exceeds 34,000 people. The new justice of the peace will serve a six-year term that will begin the first Monday in January 2009. Brisebill's term ends in 2013. Candidates who wish to serve in Pahrump's Justice system have until Friday, Jan. 18, to file for the election. |
