On Jan. 4, Pahrump Valley Fire-Rescue Service received final authorization to proceed with a highway safety grant.

PVFRS applied for the grant in March 2007 and was notified of a successful application June 28. However, due to congressional budget issues, the grant was not funded until late December.

The grant will fund the purchase of rescue equipment used to extricate people from vehicle, machinery and other types of accidents where they become trapped or pinned.

The total grant project budget is $20,413 with federal grant funds of $16,351 and in-kind funds (town's share) of $4,062.

As part of the grant approval requirements, PVFRS will complete required activities including but not limited to: track, account for and report all in-kind contributions to the project, submit quarterly progress reports detailing the status of each objective and activity and a final annual report summarizing the project's accomplishments or shortcomings.
