Conditional use permit OK'd for new bar
A conditional use permit was approved by the Pahrum Regional Planning Commission Wednesday for a bar with a dance hall and pool hall in one of the buildings at the new Edward Homes Professional Center on Highway 160 off Rainbow Avenue.

School district discusses truancy problem
The Nye County school board approved the district improvement plan at its Dec. 3 meeting.

Town Manager Dave Richards received a 2 percent merit increase, retroactive to June 2007, with the board's approval of a resolution accepting his performance evaluation summary.

Lee and DeEllen Stowell remember very clearly being a little lost in their own brand-new-to-them, community in 2005. Three years later they feel very settled and comfortable in Pahrump, but they know there is much, much more yet to discover.

Town to explore local tax for fire department
The town staff will be kept busy in the upcoming months now that they've been officially directed by the Pahrump Town Board to research whether or not the town can levy a tax to help fund the Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue Service and possibly the Nye County Sheriff's Office.

TONOPAH -- Nye County will put $500,000 received from the Department of Energy for Yucca Mountain as its portion of funding for a $1.8 million town of Manhattan water project.
