Pahrump Valley goes to Las Vegas today to wrestle Mesquite Virgin Valley, with an undisputed Southern Nevada Class 3-A League championship the prize if the Trojans prevail.

The Trojans, 5-0 in the league and 20-3 in all duals this season, and Bulldogs will clash at 3 p.m. in the Faith Lutheran High School gym. Pahrump Valley defeated the Bulldogs 56-22 at Boulder City in December.

"But Virgin Valley was without a couple wrestlers that day; they are healthy and back in the lineup," said Craig Rieger, the Pahrump Valley coach, who is expecting the Bulldogs to be at peak efficiency today.

A Trojan win will move PVHS to 6-0 in the league, with duals remaining against Faith Lutheran and Moapa Valley. The Trojans are 2-0 against Boulder City and 1-0 against Faith, Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley.

Faith Lutheran, the host team today, will wrestle Virgin Valley and Boulder City.

Pahrump Valley was 3-1 in the Basic Duals in Henderson Friday, beating Basic 39-32, Las Vegas Del Sol 66-13 and Sierra Vista 65-6, while bowing 43-24 to Spring Valley. In that latter dual, PVHS wrestlers lost three matches in overtime.

Pahrump Valley's wrestlers leave Thursday for Spring Creek, where they will be competing in the prestigious Kiwanis Invitational Friday and Saturday. Wrestlers from more than 25 schools will go after individual titles, as well as score enough points to give their teams the overall championship.

In the 2007 tournament, Minico, Idaho, won the team championship, outpointing Class 4-A Churchill County Fallon and the host Spartans. Pahrump Valley was to have wrestled in that tournament, but the trip was canceled because of bad weather.
