Pahrump Valley's boys' golf team will host the Southern Nevada Class 3-A Championships May 8, at Mountain Falls.

Boulder City, Mesquite Virgin Valley, Overton Moapa Valley and Las Vegas Faith Lutheran will compete in the 18-hole medal play tournament on the par 72, 6,000-yard course.

The Trojans, coached by Bob Hopkins, will open the season March 12 against league opponents at the Municipal course in Boulder City.

The annual Sierra Vista/Pahrump Valley Invitational tournament is March 17-18 at Mountain Falls. Many of the top boys teams in the southwestern United States will compete in the 36-hole medal-play event.

Pahrump Valley will host a regular-season 3-A meet April 3, starting at 11 a.m. at Mountain Falls.

The state tournament is May 13-14 in Mesquite, at a site to be announced.

Pahrump Valley's other spring sports are boys and girls track, baseball and fast-pitch softball. The Trojans are leaving Class 3-A at the end of the school year. In fall 2008, the Pahrump Valley athletics teams will join the Class 4-A Sunset Region Southwest Division.

The 2008 spring schedules at a glance:

Track -- The Trojans will be coached this spring by Andy Schneider, who took over for Jason Odegard, now a high school administrator in North Dakota.

The Lady Trojans won the Nevada Class 3-A state championship in 2007, while the boys challenged for the title in the meet contested at Del Sol High School in Las Vegas.

The Trojans will open at home March 11 in a quadrangular meet at the renovated Pahrump Valley High School stadium. That project -- which includes the construction of a 1,700-seat home grandstand and the relocation of the former bleachers to the visitors' side -- is to be completed by that week, according to school officials.

Laughlin, along with Las Vegas Class 4-A schools Chaparral and Durango, will compete at PVHS March 11.

The Trojans' annual Rotary Invitational will be contested April 11, starting at 1 p.m.

The Southern 3-A regionals are May 9-10 at a site to be announced, with the state championships to be held May 16-17 at Damonte Ranch in south Reno.

--

Baseball -- Doug Marion will be back for his second season as coach. The 2007 Trojans lost 6-1 to repeat champion Las Vegas Faith Lutheran in the finals played on the Crusaders' field. The 2008 regionals will be played May 8-9-10 at Boulder City, with the state tournament to be contested at sites in Reno May 15-16-17.

The Trojans will open the season March 6-7-8 in the River Valley, Ariz., Invitational, also to be contested at Needles, Calif.

On March 20-21-22, Pahrump Valley is in the Del Sol Invitational in Las Vegas.

Pahrump Valley's home opener will be April 1 in Southern Nevada Class 3-A League games against Overton Moapa Valley.

--

Fast-Pitch Softball -- Preston Dockter has replaced Rich Lauver as coach of the Lady Trojans, and like the baseball team, the fast-pitch squad will spend March on the road.

Pahrump Valley is in tournaments at River Valley, Ariz. (March 6-7-8), St. George, Utah (March 13-14-15), and at Kingman, Ariz. (March 21-22).

Pahrump Valley will not compete in the Fred Davison Memorial this spring. That tournament is hosted by Las Vegas Clark High School.

The 3-A league opener is April 1 against Moapa Valley.

Boulder City will host the Southern regionals May 8-9-10, with the state tournament to be played May 15-16-17 in Reno.
