Beta Xi meeting The regular meeting of Beta Xi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will be at 6 p.m., Jan. 9 in the home of Lilia. Stella will present the cultural program. Building Code training There will be a training class for anyone who uses International Building Code, 8 a.m. to noon, Jan. 11 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. This will be training to transition from the 1997 IBC to the new 2008 IBC. Contractors, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Plan Checkers, Building Inspectors and Design Professionals should plan to attend. The class will be presented by Charles Abbot Associates. DAR meeting The Pahrump Springs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hold a regular monthly meeting at 10 a.m., Jan. 9 at the Pahrump Community Library meeting room. Pet adoption There will be a pet adoption event, 10-2 p.m., Jan. 12 at Hollywood Video, 240 S. Hwy. 160. The adoption fee for dogs is $64 and the fee for cats is $36. Call 751-0532 for more information. Toys for Tots thanks Successful communities are built by people working together, helping out in times of need. MCL Detachment 1199, along with the Holiday Task Force are proud to present a variety of important programs and services for the needy families of Nye County by providing food, clothing and Toys for Tots, resulting in a Merry Christmas for 2007. The Marine Corps motto is Semper Fidelis, meaning always faithful, and the Pahrump Marines' Toys for Tots program wants to be faithful to all the children of Nye County, delivering joy and happiness. Call 910-9345. Poetry jam canceled Due to conflicting holiday events, the ongoing poetry and coffee meeting at Lois Layne's Deli has been canceled for January. The next meeting is scheduled 10 a.m.-noon, Feb. 9 at the deli, just off Hwy. 160 at Basin Road, across from Petrack Park. Readings from the great poets alternate with open mike. Volunteers needed The Pahrump Community Library is looking for mature individuals who are interested in joining the Volunteer Auxiliary Security Guard at the library. Emery, is as follows: Jan. 11 -- Early intervention explore and learn play group, 11 a.m. Jan. 15 -- Teen parenting in collaboration with WIC, 2 p.m. Jan. 17 -- Vehicle safety class, 3:45 p.m., registration required. Jan. 18 -- Foster parent support group, 1 p.m. Jan. 21 -- Closed for Martin Luther King Day. Jan. 22 -- Infant and child CPR, 1 p.m., registration required. Jan. 25 -- Early intervention explore and learn play group, 11 a.m. Jan. 29 -- Ages to stages developmental screening. Call for appointment. The Back to Basics Parenting class is at 3 p.m. every Wednesday (parents with children birth to 5 years old). Play group is at 1 p.m. every Thursday. Call 751-5898 (se habla español) for more information. Benefit spaghetti dinner There will be a benefit dinner for Daniel Murphy from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17 at J.G. Johnson. Daniel was in a quad accident over Thanksgiving weekend and was in a coma and ICU for three weeks. He was then moved into a rehab center. Proceeds from the dinner will go to the Murphy family to help with medical expenses. Dinner will include spaghetti, garlic bread and dessert. A cake auction will take place during dinner. The cost for the dinner is free but donations will be gratefully accepted. Call 751-2072 for more information. |
