One would think that after you've been arrested and booked into jail, things couldn't get much worse. That wasn't the case, however, for Miguel Anjel Meza, 27, and Joseph Eugene Barry, 31.

The two men were originally arrested and brought to the Nye County Detention Center Thursday, Dec. 27, and booked on a whopping 3,270 counts of possession of a credit card without the cardholders' consent. Meza and Barry were arrested while being interviewed by Nye County Sheriff's Office deputies at their residence, appropriately located on Money Street.

The deputies searched the property and located 3,270 merchant copy receipts from CVS.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the receipts, which contained the full identifying information of the credit cards used in the purchases, had been stolen during burglaries at numerous CVS stores in Las Vegas that occurred during December.

Barry and Meza, however, were not the individuals who committed the burglary.

According to a sheriff's office press release, an independent witness confirmed that Barry had attempted to get rid of the receipts after he initially got them.

How Barry and Meza came to have the receipts from the persons who committed the burglaries, however, is a question the sheriff's office is still trying to answer. "Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Nye County Detectives Division are working together in an effort to identify Barry and Meza's exact involvement with the crimes in Las Vegas," the sheriff's office stated.

Meza and Barry found themselves in jail being held on $50,000 bail. But it didn't end there for the suspects.

That same day, Meza and Barry were joined by a third suspect, James Thomas Anderson, and all three were booked on charges of possession of stolen property and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Their alleged involvement in this incident dated back to February of 2007 when a burglary/arson took place and numerous items were taken from a residence.

In December, Nye County general assignment detectives received information that a gun stolen from the residence had been pawned at the local Super Pawn.

The gun was recovered and further investigation revealed that the gun allegedly originated from Meza and Barry.

Both were interviewed about the incident and they identified the gun, said they knew it had been stolen and told deputies they had gotten it from Anderson.

Anderson was located and joined Meza and Barry at the Nye County Detention Center. He is being held on no bail on district court warrants.

For Meza and Barry, however, the additional charges resulted in another $15,000 being tacked on to their bail.

When it rains it pours and the following day, Dec. 28, didn't bring Meza or Barry any better news. The two men found themselves booked again on an additional charge of stolen property and, once again, joined in jail by yet another suspect, 27-year-old David Michael Kreidel.

During the search a large piano was located, which investigation revealed had been stolen from Deborah Yost, 47. Meza and Barry reportedly told deputies that the piano had been brought to them by Kreidel.

The piano was returned to the victim's residence and Kreidel was booked into the detention center, where he is being held on $5,000.

For Meza and Barry, however, the charge upped their bail further. Both are still incarcerated on a grand total of $75,000 bail each.

Three arrested in card scam

Three people were arrested and booked on a host of charges relating to theft on Saturday, Dec. 5, when they attempted to run a gift-card scam at Wal-Mart.

Charles Galloway, 31, Nickima McGriff, 24, and Michael Antule, 26, were arrested after allegedly attempting to use stolen goods to obtain a gift card and steal from the store.

It all began the day before the three suspects were arrested with a reported car burglary at the Mountain View Casino.

Nye County Sheriff's Office Dep. Schiller was dispatched to the casino where he spoke with the victim, Shirley Stile, 62, at approximately 9 p.m.

Stile reportedly told the deputy that her car had been broken into and items she had just purchased from Wal-Mart had been stolen.

Further investigation revealed the suspects had gone to Wal-Mart and returned the stolen goods, receiving a gift card in exchange.

Schiller was able to obtain video surveillance of the suspects as they returned the items.

The next day, one minute after midnight, Schiller (who was joined by Dep. Murphy) were dispatched to Wal-Mart where they were informed the suspects who had returned the items were in the store shopping.

Schiller and Murphy then made contact with McGriff and Antule.

According to a sheriff's office press release, an interview with both suspects found they were involved in the crime.

The two alleged thieves also told the deputies that a third suspect, Galloway, was in a car outside the store.

After interviewing Galloway, the deputies determined he was involved in the crime as well.

The deputies discovered later that Galloway had given them a false name when asked.

They also reportedly discovered that while Antule and McGriff were in the store, Antule had allegedly attempted to shoplift items.

McGriff gave deputies permission to search her purse and deputies found a pipe used to smoke marijuana and found a clear syringe commonly used to inject methamphetamine.

Galloway was booked on charges of burglary, two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime, obtaining money or property under false pretenses, four counts of possession of stolen property, petit larceny, buglary (auto) conspiracy, two counts of providing false information to a police office, and larceny from a person over 60 years of age. His bail tallied $37,556.

McGriff was booked on charges of burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, obtaining money under false pretense, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a hypodermic device. She is being held on $16,614 bail.

Antule was booked on burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and petit larceny. His bail was set at $15,632.
