Fishing

EAGLE VALLEY

RESERVOIR

The ice is about six inches thick, but fishing pressure remains light.

For those hesitant to walk on the ice, you can drill your hole right next to the dock and fish from there.

This is a popular method for fishing this reservoir. Always check for the latest ice conditions prior to venturing forth upon the ice.

ECHO CANYON

RESERVOIR

The report is thin ice and unsafe conditions.

LAKE MEAD

Trout anglers have found good action for stocked rainbows near the Hemenway fishing pier, or at least where it is supposed to be.

Trout fishing has also been good at B-5 Road in the days following the trout plants. Striped bass are still hitting slow in the Hemenway and B-F road with occasional reports that a good fish has been caught.

Such is the case with a 10-pound 8-ounce striper reeled in by a lucky boater. Anglers are still finding shad and stripers in the Vegas Wash area though most are in the one- to three-pound category.

LAKE MOHAVE

Fishing activity has been slow with very few anglers making the trip to Willow Beach over the weekend.

Those who did found little success either from the shoreline or from boats. That was true for both trout and striper fishermen, and it didn't matter what anglers were casting to the fish.

The report is similar for those working out of Cottonwood Cove. Striper fishing has been slow, though one angler reportedly caught five fish with a total weight near 20 pounds.

Some anglers blame the slowdown on the return of shad to Lake Mohave.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

The reservoirs are about 85 to 90 percent iced up, though some ducks are holding on small patches of open water. Open water would suggest unsafe ice conditions, though some anglers have been testing the ice.

Always use extreme caution and verify the thickness of the ice before walking on it.

URBAN PONDS

PowerBait, flies and assorted hardware have been taking planter rainbows at the urban ponds.

Fish prepared baits on hooks no larger than size 16 and prepare your bait to match. If you practice catch-and-release fishing, use a fly or hardware, and handle the fish as little as possible.

Don't hold them with a towel because that removes their protective yet slimy coating. Mepp's and Panther Martin spinners are a good choice when it comes to hardware. For flies use something with some flash to it.
