BEATTY -- Four teams, in dire straits in Nevada Class A Central Division basketball, clash here today, when Tonopah visits the Beatty Hornets for a girls and boys doubleheader.

The girls' varsity game begins at 6 p.m., with the boys' game to follow.

According to unofficial standings on the www.maxpreps.com Web site, Tonopah's girls are 2-6, with Beatty at 3-4, while the Mucker boys are 2-12 and Beatty 2-9.

What is unique about the standings is that none of the Central teams -- boys or girls -- are at .500 or better.

The best girls' record is the 3-4 for Beatty, while Indian Springs has the top boys' mark at 3-5. The reason the standings are unofficial in both divisions is not all of the scores have been reported.

Nevada Class A basketball has two distinct powers -- Lake Mead Christian Academy's boys and Las Vegas Mountain View Christian's girls.

Lake Mead, for four consecutive seasons the runnerup in the state tournament, is 17-1, while the Lady Saints are 8-2 with wins against three Class 3-A opponents.

Both of those schools are in the South Division, which includes the Pahranagat Valley Alamo boys (7-4) and girls (7-4). The defending 1-A boys state champion Trinity Thunder is 9-4.

Elsewhere in 1-A Nevada:

Austin, with only three games reported, is 2-1 in the East boys' standings. Owyhee is at 8-5, while Wells is 7-6.

Eureka's girls are 4-1, while Wells is 11-3 and defending state champion Owyhee 7-2 in the East.

Gerlach, 4-1, has the top girls' record in the West, which has Virginia City at 4-2.

Virginia City, which has won 19 state championships, is 9-3 in the West boys' standings. Coleville, Calif., is at 4-3.

Central and South teams will compete in the Southern 1-A regionals the week of Feb. 11, with first-round games on home sites. Semifinal games are Feb. 15 at Durango High School in Las Vegas; the regional finals are Feb. 16 at Del Sol High in Vegas.

The Northern regionals are Feb. 14-15-16 at Lowry High School in Winnemucca, for both boys and girls teams.

The Class A state tournament will be played Feb. 22-23. Semifinal games are scheduled at North Valleys High School in Reno on Feb. 22; the state title games are at 6:40 p.m. (girls) and 8:20 p.m. (boys) in the Lawlor Events Center on the University of Nevada campus in Reno.
