Letters to the Editor
To the children and residents of Pahrump Santa and Mrs. Claus would like to take this time out to answer some of the questions that the children of Pahrump asked in the Pahrump Valley Times "Christmas Greetings." Rudolph was born with his nose that way, so that he could guide Santa's Sleigh, it also helps to keep Santa on the right path at night Hunter, and yes Kyle, Rudolph still leads Santa's team each Christmas Eve. The best reindeer learn to fly or I would not be able to deliver all of the toys. The reindeer have names because everything in this world needs a name, just like you do Kyle. The reindeer stay up on the roof by magic. All of the other reindeer are nice to Rudolph, Sabian, as they know how important he is to the team. The elves are short since they are like children but older. The elves are all good and already starting to work on the toys for next year. Santa's red suit was made by the elves, with help from Mrs. Claus. Mrs. Claus chooses the color red, because it is so cheery and everyone can see it, Genaviere. Santa uses a sleigh because of the snow up at the North Pole. Chimneys are the easiest way for Santa to get in to a house, as doors and windows are usually locked. Madison, Christmas is Santa's favorite time of the year. Ashlee, Santa delivers toys all over the world to the good boys and girls and gets it done in a 24-hour period. Alexis asked if God and Santa are friends. Santa and God are good friends, as Christmas is the birthday of Jesus. Sometimes Jesus gets jealous of Santa Claus, this time of year, but everybody loves each other. Santa and Mrs. Claus would like to say a very special thank you to Valentina and Mataya, for the cookies and the wonderful pictures. Santa and Mrs. Claus would like to thank all of the residents of Pahrump. We are always made to feel so special and loved in Pahrump. Santa and Mrs., Claus would also like to thank the following special people and organizations for all of their help and holiday spirit: Pahrump A Pum Pum Committee, Seemores' Too, Pahrump Nugget, Pahrump Silver Tappers, Saddle West Hotel and Casino, Department of Family Services in Pahrump, Nye County Sheriff's Department, Lions Club of Pahrump, Leo's Club, the Pahrump Postal Workers for the wonderful mailbox, J.G. Johnson School, Manse School, Rosemary Clarke Middle School, Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Pahrump Valley Times for all of the pictures and the Christmas Greetings paper. Extra special thanks go to Elf Larry, Elf Julia and all of the elves that worked so hard for the Lions Club Letters to Santa and Pahrump Pah Pum Pum. See you all next year, SANTA AND MRS. CLAUS Timing is strange On Tuesday, Dec. 18, the Nye County Commission voted a tax increase down, a tax increase which barely passed in 2006. Commissioner Liakopoulos, who campaigned in 2006 against any tax increase, cast the deciding "no" vote. The town board consists of either relatives of the fire department or actual employees of the fire department. The fire department and the sheriff's office were the only two departments who stood to gain from the tax increase Less than two days after Liakopoulos voted no, the Nye County sheriff's department arrested Liakopoulos based on the word of Laurayne Murray, the chairman of the town board, who is married to the head of the fire department's union. I find the timing of this arrest very strange. KARL HANSON Dr. Right or Dr. Wrong If you go to a doctor he presents himself to be a specialist, and gives you a business card that says so. And the State of Nevada says he is. So you trust him, he operates, doing an outdated operation, because he knows no better. He was licensed before 1986, so he is not required to know. I believe it's like being grandfathered in. But the operation was outdated, extremely painful, and unsuccessful. Who's at fault? Do we really license doctors like this? I believe we need to require even older physicians to do some sort of schooling to keep abreast of the new technologies, don't you? Sincerely, ZOLA WILLIAMSON Thanks to benefit entertainers On behalf of B.J. Hetrick-Irwin and the Nevada Silver Tappers, we would like to thank the following entertainers who assisted us in hosting the 2007 Christmas Benefit Show; Pizzi's Band, Sun Country Cloggers, W.D. over 40, Dance N Step Follies, High Desert Line Dancers, Al Rio, Johnny "V," Lloyd Lass and Rhonda Van Winkle. Your entertainment helped to raise $5500, which was presented to the Pahrump Senior Center. We thank each of you, and of course our audience and Saddle West Hotel and Casino who continue to support us in all of our efforts to assist our community. MITZI SEARS |
