3 killed, 6 hurt in crash
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
Three people were killed and six injured in a two-car collision Wednesday on Highway 160 near its intersection with Route 95. The accident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. when a Ford Crown Victoria carrying a driver and a passenger collided with a Ford Town and Country minivan carrying seven people. The driver of the Crown Victoria, a 19-year-old female, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger, also a 19-year-old female, was transported to UMC Trauma Center in Las Vegas with non-life-threatening injuries. A 5-year-old male and an 85-year-old female who were in the minivan were also pronounced dead on the scene. Five other passengers in the minivan, including a 1-year-old girl, 3-year-old girl, 11-year-old boy, 28-year-old female and a 33-year-old male, were also transported to Las Vegas with non-life-threatening injuries. Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Honea said the Crown Victoria was traveling northbound and attempting to pass two other vehicles by travelling in the southbound lane. When the driver saw the approaching van, she attempted to get back into the northbound lane but over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle. The car began a slide across the southbound lane resulting in the minivan broadsiding the car on the passenger side. |
