RENO -- Incline's Jordan Cronin edged Yerington's Stephen Skroch for third place in the 30th Asics Sierra Nevada Classic, a tournament that attracted more than 1,000 wrestlers from 96 teams that competed in 1,826 matches over three days in the Livestock Events Center here.

Cronin got an escape with less than 10 seconds left in the match to edge Skroch, the defending state heavyweight champion.

That was one of the more entertaining matches involving Nevada wrestlers in the tournament.

Spring Creek, the defending state 3-A team champion, was sixth in the standings with 126 points. Los Gatos, Calif., was first with 148.5; Caldwell, Idaho, second, 143.5; Eldorado, Calif., third, 138; Auburn, Wash., fourth,135.5, and Central Catholic, Calif., fifth,127.5.

Churchill County Fallon was 12th with 107.5; Sparks Reed was 17th with 91, and Galena was 18th with 88.5.

Cameron Hopper of Spring Creek won the 112-pound title, defeated Juan Perez of Pitman (Turlock, Calif.,) 6-2 in the finals.

The Spartans' 130-pounder, Nick Wooden, stopped Aaron Westphal of Alhambra, Calif., 7-0, to win the title.

Steven Hernandez of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman won the 140-pound title, pinning Josh Cates of Burns, Ore. Gorman was 15th with 96 points.

Other Southern Nevada teams competing were Bonanza (21st), Las Vegas (24th), Henderson Green Valley (30th), Arbor View (53rd) and Clark (85th).

Bo Bettinson, from Class 4-A Reed, won the 103 championship, edging Andrew Perez of Modesto (Calif.) Central Catholic, 6-5. Other individual champions were from Folsom, Calif. (119); Watsonville, Calif. (125); Caldwell, Idaho (135); Crater, Ore. (145; Los Gatos (152); Central Catholic (160); Battle Ground, Wash., (171); Auburn (189); Vallejo (Calif.), Bethel (215), and Central Catholic (285).
