DAV meeting The Pahrump Springs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hold a regular monthly meeting at 10 a.m., Jan. 9 at the Pahrump Community Library meeting room. Computer users meet The Pahrump Computer Users Group will meet at 1 p.m., Jan. 7 in the meeting room at the Pahrump Community Library. Church Grand opening Central Valley Baptist Church would like to invite the public to the official grand opening celebration on Sunday, Jan. 6 at 3170 S. Blagg Road. Devotion begins at 9 a.m., adult Sunday school at 9:45 a.m., morning service at 11 a.m., and children's Sunday school at 11:30 a.m. A barbecue and music will follow the services. Sunday evening services wil begin at 6 p.m., Jan. 13 and Wednesday evening Bible study will be at 6:30 p.m. The last Wednesday of the month will be popcorn and a movie. Central Valley Baptist Church is an English speaking mission from the First Southern Baptist Church. The location was formerly a Spanish mission, Templo Bautista. Art Show The public is invited to the "Off the Wall" artist showing. The works are out of this world and easy to take home. This is a group show with special guest artist Phillip Torrian from Blue Diamond. The gallery show runs through Jan. 9. Call 760-852-4420 for more information. Women motorcyclists A new group of women motorcyclists is forming. The first meeting will be at 1 p.m., Jan. 19 at the Subway on Highway 372, and they will continue to meet every third Thursday of the month. Disabled American Vets The Disabled American Vets will hold the monthly Friday Dinner 5-7 p.m., Jan. 4 at the VFW Hall on Homestead Road. Chicken soup, salad and cookies will be available for $6 per person. Everyone is invited and the proceeds go to aid the community's disabled vets. Call 751-2350 for more information. PV Genealogical society The society will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 3 at the Church of Latter Day Saints meeting room at West and Wilson. Our program will be one of sharing of artifacts we have found in our genealogical research. One member has a diary of an ancestor who fought in the Civil War. For more information call Bob Alvis at 751-9032. 4-H horse group The 4-H Mounted Horse Games group will have their first meeting on Jan. 5. Join 4-H to have fun and meet new friends. Call Debby at 727-5532 for more information. Bible study Streams in the Desert Christian Bookstore will hold a bible study class at 6:30 p.m., Sunday Jan. 6 at the bookstore, 421 S. Front Street. Call 751-6988 for more information. Benefit spaghetti dinner There will be a benefit dinner for Daniel Murphy from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17 at J.G. Johnson. Daniel was in a quad accident over Thanksgiving weekend and was in a coma and ICU for three weeks. He was then moved into a rehab center. Proceeds from the dinner will go to the Murphy family to help with medical expenses. Dinner will include spaghetti, garlic bread and dessert. A cake auction will take place during dinner. The cost for the dinner is free but donations will be gratefully accepted. Call 751-2072 for more information. Library calendar The Pahrump Community Library is located at 701 East Street, and is hosting the following events in December: Computer classes for beginning level users are Monday-Wednesday. Sign-up at the library only. Tuesday classes are Little pups (ages 2-3), 9:15-9:45 a.m.; Red pups (ages 4-5), 10-10:45 a.m.; Big red (ages 5-12 and Kindergarten), 3:30-4:30 p.m. The Pahrump Community Library offers home bound delivery service for anyone who is unable to visit the library. ARES Ham Radio class The Amateur Radio Emergency Services is offering an introduction to Ham Radio via a ham cram class being offered starting at 8 a.m., Jan. 19, 1510 Siri Lane. The class is for technician license only. A photo ID or two non-photo forms of identification and $14 to take the test which begins at 1 p.m. Bring a lunch as a lunch break will occur around noon. The regular meetings are 1-4 p.m., on Saturdays at Seemore's Too. There is a second meeting, 3-6 p.m., Tuesdays at Sonic. Everyone is invited. Call Pete, 513-1742, for more information. Family to Family Calendar The December class schedule for Family to Family Connection, 160 S. Jan. 18 -- Foster parent support group, 1 p.m. Jan. 21 -- Closed for Martin Luther King Day. Jan. 22 -- Infant and child CPR, 1 p.m., registration required. Jan. 25 -- Early intervention explore and learn play group, 11 a.m. Jan. 29 -- Ages to stages developmental screening. Call for appointment. The Back to Basics Parenting class is at 3 p.m. every Wednesday (parents with children birth to 5 years old). Play group is at 1 p.m. every Thursday. Resource Lending Library is open from 9- 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For car seat safety checks or assistance with Nevada Check-up applications, please call for an appointment. Call 751-5898 (se habla español) for more information. Craft supplies needed A group of volunteers in Pahrump are making items for our senior shut ins and our Soldiers in Iraq. We need unused and unwanted craft supplies and yarn are needed. Volunteers will make the supplies into useful items. The group will be making assorted Christmas tree ornaments and stocking to be filled. For our Soldiers, there is a national group that fills and ships the stockings. Black yarn is needed for helmet liners for our troops. Other yarns are needed for scarves and slippers. Socks of any color can be used for our senior shut ins and those in the local nursing home. Two hundred stockings will be made to fill for Pahrump residents for Christmas 2008. For more information on drop off, call Barb Johnston 751-5356. Late January there will be meetings to make items. This is a informal group and no membership is required. Fish Fry The Daughters of Mary fish fry will be 4-7 p.m., Jan. 4, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 781 Gamebird Road. There will be fried or baked fish dinners, fish tacos, refreshments and dessert. |
