PEACE POLE: Peace pole is dedicated
"May peace prevail on earth and also at RCMS" was the message given out as the Rosemary Clarke Middle School dedicated its peace pole shortly before Christmas. The pole, whose message was sent abroad by student, staff and administration, is a permanent reminder of the school's perception of the importance of character evaluation and anti-bullying.

Hollis will seek re-election
Nye County Commission Chairman Gary Hollis said he will seek re-election to a third term to his District 3 seat in November.

California Lottery
No one matched all five numbers and the mega number in Saturday's drawing of the California Super Lotto. The next jackpot will be at least $27 million.

Landfill operator gains contract hike
Southwest Environmental Services Inc., operators of the Pahrump and Tonopah landfills, received an 8.6 percent increase in their contract with Nye County at the Dec. 18 county commission meeting.

Clarke Student Council collects canned food
The Rosemary Clarke Middle School Student Council worked hard to make a difference in the community this year, most recently by organizing a schoolwide canned food drive and collecting 3,809 cans of food for the needy.
