FISHING
EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR The ice is melting but is still thick enough for ice fishing and should be through mid-March. Verify conditions before venturing on the ice because they can change quickly. Anglers can fish through the ice while standing on the dock. Rainbow trout have been taking worms or PowerBait. ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR Ice conditions are unsafe. LAKE MEAD The Vegas Bay arm is still the place for anglers who just want to catch some fish. Small stripers continue to take cut bait in the area. There are reports that anglers have been doing well for striped bass in the evening hours following trout plants at Saddle Cove. Fishing in the Hemenway area has been hit and miss for stripers. Action for largemouth and smallmouth bass should pick up with warming temperatures. Little Jakes, Panther Martins, and other hardware, as well as PowerBait should work on stocked rainbow trout. LAKE MOHAVE Storms that blew through southern Nevada kept fishing activity to a minimum over the weekend. Striper fishing continues to be slow for both boat and shore anglers. Perhaps warmer weather will trigger the bite. Largemouth bass anglers have had success while casting plugs and top-water lures toward the shore in coves north of Cottonwood Cove. LAUGHLIN Action for pan fish should pick up along with the temperatures. Look for them in eddies and near structure along the Colorado River. Worms and PowerBait have been taking stocked rainbows between the Laughlin Bridge and casino row. WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA Unsafe ice conditions exist. URBAN PONDS As of press time, the Nevada Department of Wildlife was scheduled to stock the urban ponds with rainbow trout sometime Wednesday. Actual stocking times are dependent on travel conditions because the trout are coming from the Mason Valley Hatchery. Small flies fished behind a bubble, small spinners, worms and PowerBait are generally productive for planted trout. |
