Pahrump Valley's spring sports teams are hard at work, preparing for their final seasons in Class 3-A competition.

The baseball and fast-pitch softball teams will travel to Arizona March 6-7-8 for tournaments.

The baseball team will play at both River Valley and Needles, Calif., against five opponents -- Bullhead City Mohave, Grey Hills, Monument Valley, Chino Valley and River Valley, under the direction of coach Doug Marion.

His varsity assistant will be Rich Lauver, who guided the PVHS fast-pitch softball team to three straight state 3-A titles in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Preston Dockter will coach the softball team, which will take on Grey Hills, Holbrook, Phoenix Christian, Blue Ridge and River Valley in a tournament at River Valley, Ariz.

The golf team, with Bob Hopkins as coach, launches its season at Boulder City March 12, then co-hosts (with Las Vegas Sierra Vista) a multi-team invitational at Mountain Falls March 17-18.

Pahrump Valley's track team, with Andy Schneider the coach, is to open at home March 11 against Las Vegas Chaparral and Durango, along with Laughlin.

The football stadium construction project is to be completed by March 10; today, between 10 a.m. and 11, the press box is to be lifted into place atop the new grandstands.
