Marcia Joy Gasparik

Marcia Joy Gasparik, 56, passed away Feb. 20, 2008, at Spring Valley Medical Center in Las Vegas.

An intermittent resident of Pahrump since 1986, Marcia had returned home in the last couple of months to be with her mother.

She lived in Sheldon, Iowa for the past nine years.

During her years in Sheldon, she was employed by Ed's Cafe.

During her years in Pahrump she was a long-time and valued member of the news staff covering a multitude of events for the Gateway Gazette.

She is survived by mother Corine Kiefer of Pahrump; daughter Heather Carpenter of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; brother Barry Kiefer of Succasunna, N.J. and grandchildren Tiffany, Brandon and Nichole of East Stroudsburg, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her father Frank Kiefer of Pahrump.

She will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Cremation was handled by the Neptune Society of Las Vegas. Services were private. (02/20/2008)

John Brouwer

John Brouwer, 86, passed away Feb. 23, 2008, in Pahrump, after complications from a fall a few years ago.

He was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and married his wife of 62 years, Lucille, in Ashland, Wis., in 1946.

He was a veteran of the 101st Airborne, and served in the Battle of the Bulge during Word War II.

In 1952 he moved his family to Colorado, where he worked in the field of auto mechanics and owned his own business. He also worked for Kodak of Colorado and retired after 15 years.

Upon retiring, he and Lucille spent eight years traveling through the U.S. in a fifth-wheel.

They moved to Pahrump in 1989 and John worked for the gaming industry and a title company for many years.

He is survived by his wife Lucille; four children Mike (Roberta) of Fort Collins, Colo., Sharon (Bill) of Durango, Colo., Laurie (Ken) of Loveland, Colo. and Lisa of Sarasota, Fla. and five grandchildren Jonathan, Hollie, Heidi, Kristy and Lindsay.

He was preceded in death by parents Catherine and Jacob Brouwer and brother Jake Brouwer.

A military memorial service will be held with the family at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo. (02/23/2008)

Ilse Maria Renje

Ilse Maria Renje, 73, passed away Feb. 16, 2008, in Pahrump.

She was born June 4, 1934, in Hamburg, Germany and was a resident of Pahrump.

She worked as a greeter for Wal-Mart.

Her son Dennis Glenn Cox of Gaugrehweiler, Germany survives her.

Burial services will be at 2 p.m., March 3, at Grandview Cemetery. (02/16/2008)

James A. Vreeland

James A. Vreeland, 87, passed away Feb. 23, 2008, in Las Vegas.

Vreeland was born April 17, 1920, in Jersey City, N.J. He resided in Pahrump since 1979, after coming from Las Vegas.

He worked as an airline executive and was in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served in World War II.

His wife Monica J. Vreeland of Las Vegas; daughter Trisha Jessee of Canton, Ohio; sons Michael of Farmingdale, N.Y. and Gregory A. of Las Vegas survive him.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Feb. 28, at Palm Mortuary-Eastern, located at 7600 S. Eastern Ave. in Las Vegas.
