Friends of the Library The Friends of the Library will meet at 9:15 a.m., March 1. Keith Froehling will speak on his books, "Seizing Your Success" and "Living the Life You Love." He will also discuss publishing your own book. Bible study Streams in the Desert Christian Bookstore will hold a Bible study class at 6:30 p.m., March 2, 9 and 23, at 421 S. Front Street. Beta Sigma Phi The Beta Xi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will meet at 6 p.m., March 5, at Carline's home. Carline will present the cultural program. Computer users group The Pahrump Computer Users Group will meet at 1 p.m., March 3, in the Pahrump Community Library meeting room. The program will include a presentation of utilizing software for genealogy and researching family history and open office and portable applications software. The meeting is free and open to the public. Call 727-1246 for more information. NWHA spring ride The National Wild Horse Association will have a spring ride and Easter egg hunt. The event begins with breakfast and can include a steak lunch. The event takes place starting at 8 a.m., March 30. The ride and Easter egg hunt are scheduled for 10 a.m. and Craig Leet will provide the steak lunch around 1 p.m., The ride and lunch is $20 per person and lunch only is $15. Call 702-452-5853 for reservations no later than March 25. Youth art month The Pahrump Community Library will be displaying artwork by local artist age 18 and younger. If you would like your work displayed, bring it to the library after Feb. 25. Work must be clearly labeled with artists name, age and title on the front and telephone number on the back or bottom. All types of art are being accepted, including drawings, paintings, crayon, sculpture, etc. Depending on the number of items received, displays may rotate. Library staff will make every effort to secure the items, but cannot be held responsible for damage or theft. Work may be picked-up after March 31, and works not claimed by April 15, will be discarded. Call 727-5930, ext. 17 for more information. Family to Family Calendar The February class schedule for Family to Family Connection, 160 S. Emery, is as follows: Feb. 29 -- Car Seat Safety Class, 1-4 p.m., call for appointment. Mondays -- Scrapbooking, 1-2 p.m., bring five pictures and supplies. The Back to Basics Parenting class is at 3 p.m. every Wednesday (parents with children birth to 5 years old). Play group is at 1 p.m. every Thursday. Resource Lending Library is open from 9- 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Seeking Easter donations Progressive Choices Workshop is seeking donations of baskets, grass, Easter goodies and non-perishable food items to make Easter baskets and care packages for needy families in Pahrump. EAA chapter meeting The Experimental Aircraft Association chapter 1160 will hold the next monthly meeting at 10 a.m., March 1, at Phil Shallenberger's hangar, corner of Helicopter Road and Jet Road in the Calvada Aeropark. The program will feature a speaker from Nellis AFB, who will talk about avoiding midair collision in the airspace around Nellis. Anyone interested in aircraft is invited to attend. Feb. 15, is the deadline for consideration. Crafters wanted The Cinderella Girl Scholarship Program will have a fund-raiser craft fair on April 25, at the Bob Rudd Community Center. Ms. Senior Nye County Pageant The Ms. Senior Nye County Pageant for 2008 will be held April 4-5, at Saddle West Hotel and Casino. Any ladies at the elegant age of 60 plus may enter. Everyone has a talent and dancers, singers, comediennes or any other stage performances are welcome. The winner of the pageant will continue to the Ms. Senior Nevada State Pageant to be held at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas at the end of August. Call Scotty, 727-0309, or Val, 537-0468 for more information. NWHA training clinic The National Wild Horse Association is holding a training clinic at 10 a.m., March 15, at Windrock Ranch, 4779 W. Bell Vista Avenue. The clinic is to help horse owners train horses, not restrain them. The clinic includes demonstrations by their professional trainer, help with problem solving and interactive hands-on help. Come with or without a horse. Space is limited and reservations are requested. No dogs will be allowed. The NWHA is a nonprofit organization, but they are asking for a suggested donation of $10 per person. Caregiver training Nathan Adelson Hospice will provide a two-day workshop to teach individuals to be caregivers in a home/hospice or health care/nursing home environment 9-5 p.m., March 17 and 18, in the training room at Desert View Medical Center, 360 S. Lola Lane. The 16-hour training course is free and participants receive a certificate of attendance. Reservations are necessary and should be made no later than March 13. Call 751-5601 for reservations and more information. Pahrump Gunfighters The Pahrump Gunfighters have moved. They are now located on the Stagestop Casino property, 100 Stagecoach Road. The Pahrump Gunfighters are looking for new faces and talent for their old-time skits and shootouts. The next performance will be at 1 p.m., March 30. If interested in joining, call Rev. Joe at 537-1424. Fish fry Our Lady of the Valley fish fry will be 4-7 p.m., at the hall, 781 E. Gamebird Road. Dinner choices are fried, baked or tacos, refreshments included. Dessert and drinks are available. Basketball camp applications Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten Star All Star Summer Basketball Camp. The camp is by invitation only. Boys and girls ages 10 to 19 are eligible to apply. Players from 50 states and 10 foreign countries attended the 2007 camp. College scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American Team. Camp locations include Commerce, Texas; Prescott, Ariz.; Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Babson Park, Fla.; Gainesville, Ga.; Champaign, Ill.; Glassboro, N.J.; Lebanon, Tenn. and Blacksburg, Va. Governor Jim Gibbons and First Lady Dawn Gibbons will be the guests of honor. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. and dinner is at 7 p.m. Cost of participating is $60 per person, $110 per couple or $550 per reserved table. Tickets are available now. Dean Heller Congressman Dean Heller will be visiting the Pahrump Senior Center at noon, Friday, Feb. 29, at 1370 W. Basin Road. The community is welcome to come to the meeting and visit with the congressman. 4-H open house The Southern Nye County 4-H will hold an open house, 10-2 p.m., March 1, at the 4-H barn, corner of Calvada and Dandelion. Exhibits for sheep, pigs, goats, chickens and rabbits, along with informational booths on clogging, cake decorating, Junior Master Gardening and quilting will be available. Kiwanis Black Tie Affair The Kiwanis Club of Pahrump Valley will have the 3rd annual Black Tie Affair starting 6 p.m., March 8, in the Pahrump Nugget Banquet Hall. There will be a no host bar, live music from 8 p.m. to midnight, and a buffet dinner. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Formal attire is requested. Community garage sale The entire community of Artesia is holding a garage sale to benefit the Artesia Community Center. The event is scheduled 7-3 p.m., March 8. Enter the subdivision at Kellogg Road and Fox Boulevard and follow the garage sale signs. Everything imaginable will be on sale and baked goods and refreshments may be purchased at the Community Center, 6601 Fox Blvd. Craft supplies needed A group of volunteers in Pahrump are making items for our senior shut-ins and our soldiers in Iraq. We need unused and unwanted craft supplies and yarn. Volunteers will make the supplies into useful items. The group will be making assorted Christmas tree ornaments and stockings to be filled. For our soldiers, there is a national group that fills and ships the stockings. Black yarn is needed for helmet liners for our troops. Other yarns are needed for scarves and slippers. Socks of any color can be used for our senior shut-ins and those in the local nursing home. Two hundred stockings will be made to fill for Pahrump residents for Christmas 2008. Cost is $3 per person, children 5 and under free. Join an evening of dance in recognition of the Trojanettes. American Crown Circus The Nevada Native American Cultural Society will sponsor the American Crown Circus in Pahrump. Rebuilding Together with Pahrump, formerly Christmas in April, wants to help those with limited income needing home repairs. Rubber stampers retreat The Red Hot Purple Passionate Pahrumpians Red Hat Society will sponsor an all-day rubber stampers retreat, 9-6 p.m., April 5. Obedience club training The Pahrump Valley Obedience Club is offering a six week training class. Classes will be held starting 8 a.m., March 8.
