The inaugural Meet, Greet, Buy and Sign was such an overwhelming success that the Pahrump Community Library will sponsor the second annual Author Extravaganza book-signing event this spring.

Last March the Library hosted 28 authors, featuring John L. Smith. This March 29, the featured authors are award-winning meteorologist and Stephens Press author Kevin Janison, author of the children's book "Deputy Dorkface - How Stinkville Got Cleaned Up."

Sharing the limelight with Janison is acclaimed senior investigative journalist and Area 51 guru, George Knapp, who co-authored "Hunt for the Skinwalker" with Colm Kelleher.

The nineteen authors invited to participate in this year's event have written books that may have particular interest to reading enthusiasts in the valley.

If you are a fan of Science Fiction, Jo A. Wilkins and Richard R. Draude have a series of five books of the Tyranny series. Jill Po's "I Can Relate Can You" and B.J. Harper's "Abuse to Abundance" offer self-help solutions to daily problems.

Ben Masilow challenges his readers to cross emotional, psychological and spiritual boundaries with his "1001 Things to Do If You Dare."

Stephens Press is represented by Geoff Schumacher with his latest offering, "Howard Hughes: Power, Paranoia & Palace Intrigue," and he will also have copies of his "Sun, Sin & Suburbia: An Essential History of Modern Las Vegas."

UNLV professor H. Lee Barnes will have several of his books available, including "The Lucky," "Minimal Damage," "Talk to Me, James Dean," "Dummy Up and Deal" and "Gunning for Ho."

Matthew O'Brien introduces his readers to the Las Vegas sub-culture that inhabits the drainage tunnels beneath Sin City with his "Beneath the Neon: Life and Death in the Tunnels of Las Vegas."

Elvis Presley will always be the subject of speculation and adulation. Heart Sharpe sheds a different perspective on the popular icon of rock and roll with "Why Elvis Left the Building."

Another popular subject is the mob and its early years in Las Vegas. Former sports and investigative reporter Herb Jaffe examines the mob's control over the lucrative garbage industry in "Falling Dominoes." He will also have copies of his other book, "The Board."

Michael Broderick also addresses the mob in his book, "VEGAS, The Mob and the Dead Pig on the Dance Floor."

Christy Leskovar offers up "One Night in a Bad Inn," a true story that includes scandal, war, murder and mayhem. Fencer and high school teacher Kat Jaske will have several of her books available, including "For Honor: An Adventure of What Might Have Been," "Gambit: For Love of a Queen" and "Righting Time."

Merle Savage exposes what really happened after the 1989 Alaskan oil spill in her "Silence in the Sound," a book based on her own unusual personal experiences.

Award-winning author (for his book "Murder on Pratas Reef") Rick Ainsworth will not only have this book, "Murder on Pirate Reef," a historically accurate novel, but also his first book, "Thunder and Storm: The Haverfield Incident," a Navy-based book dealing with adventure, romance, racism and loyalty on a naval vessel in the 1960s.

Three local Pahrump residents are also featured.

Vivian Owens is back this year with her book, "Pickin' Fields," in hand and available for sale and signing. Robert Pilkington, owner of My Paralegal, has two books available: "The Complete Crohnie Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide for the Crohn's Disease Patient" and "The Boys from D.I.R.T." Sodeman, known by local race fans as "The Buzzman," will have his latest book, "Doin' It in the Dirt -- Southwest Style" along with his other two books, "Chrome Cadavers and Bull Ring Buddies" and "Optic Nerve."

"Doin' It in the Dirt" is a historical offering of racing action from Mohave Valley Raceway and the Pahrump Valley Raceway from the early 1990s through the 2007 racing season.

The Author Extravaganza is scheduled for March 29, at the Pahrump Community Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
