LAS VEGAS -- Nye County had its last Class A basketball team eliminated Friday, when Round Mountain's girls fell 46-35 to Pahranagat Valley Alamo in the Southern Nevada regional semifinals at Durango High School here.

Round Mountain had advanced to the semifinals with a 55-31 conquest of Las Vegas Calvary Chapel Tuesday, with the Knights extending a winning streak to 11 games.

But Alamo is an old hand at playing big games in the post-season. Coach Amy Huntsman's team, playing an aggressive defense in the half court, ran to 9-4 and 25-9 leads at the first two breaks and was never in any real trouble.

Knights shooters found the range in the second half, outscoring the Panthers 26-21, but Lauren Leavitt's 19 points and Mary Higbee's 10 helped keep Alamo out of range.

Blanca Ramirez scored 13 points and Kara Akers added 11 for the Knights, who had been the Central's No. 1 seed, thanks to a 10-0 run against division rivals.

Central teams were 2-8 against South opponents in the playoffs. Lund's boys defeated Las Vegas Mountain View Christian 87-73, but were humbled 109-22 by defending state champion Las Vegas Trinity in the semifinals.

Tonopah's boys and girls and the Beatty girls each finished 0-1 in post-season starts.

Advancing out of the South were the Alamo and Mountain View Christian girls and the Lake Mead Christian Academy and Trinity boys.

In regional finals, Mountain View held off Alamo 39-30 as Ellie Marquardt scored 13 points, including two NBA-range 3-point baskets, and Lake Mead pulled away in the second half to stop Trinity 71-55. Lake Mead is now 30-1 this season.

In the boys state semifinals Friday at Spanish Springs High School in Sparks, Lake Mead will play Owyhee at 4:40 p.m., with Trinity taking on Pyramid Lake at 8 p.m. The finals are at 8:20 p.m. Saturday in the Lawlor Events Center on the University of Nevada campus in Reno.

Pyramid Lake defeated Owyhee 54-37 for the Northern regional title.

The girls' semifinal matchups, also at Spanish Springs, are Mountain View Christian vs. Eureka at 3 p.m. and Alamo vs. defending state champion Owyhee at 6:20 p.m. The title game is at 6:40 p.m. Saturday at Lawlor.

Owyhee stopped Eureka 54-41 for the Northern girls' regional championship.

Class 2-A semifinal games will be played at North Valleys High in Reno Friday.

The boys pairings are Needles, Calif., vs. Pershing County Lovelock at 4:40 p.m. and Yerington Rite of Passage vs. Lincoln County at 8:20.

The title battle is at 1:40 p.m. Saturday at Lawlor.; defending state champion Las Vegas The Meadows was eliminated in the regionals.

The girls' matchups at North Valleys Friday are Needles vs. Lovelock, 3 p.m., and state defending champion Battle Mountain vs. Lincoln County at 6:20 p.m.

In Class 4-A, all six games will be played in the Lawlor Center, starting Thursday.
