Calendar

The February class schedule for Family to Family Connection, 160 S. Emery, is as follows:

Feb. 21 -- Family Vehicle Safety Class, 4 p.m., call for registration. There is a fee.

Basketball camp applications

Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten Star All Star Summer Basketball Camp. The camp is by invitation only.

Boys and girls ages 10 to 19 are eligible to apply.

Players from 50 states and 10 foreign countries attended the 2007 camp.

College scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American Team.

Camp locations include Commerce, Texas; Prescott, Ariz.; Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Babson Park, Fla.; Gainesville, Ga.; Champaign, Ill.; Glassboro, N.J.; Lebanon, Tenn. and Blacksburg, Va.

There is also a summer camp for boys and girls ages 6 to 18 of all skill levels.

Trip to China

The Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the National Hispanic Professional Organization is co-sponsoring a trip to China in March and will begin a second trip in November. The nine-day trip departs Los Angeles International Airport.

Package includes airfare, accommodations in 4- and 5-star hotels, three meals per day, deluxe bus tours, English-speaking tour guides, admission to tourist attractions and airport taxis.

The cost is $1499 based on double occupancy.

There will be an orientation 9-11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Chamber of Commerce office. Anyone interested in going on the trip is encouraged to attend.

Cub Scout mini-camp

Cub Scout Pack 748 would like to invite all boys in grades K-5 to attend a mini-camp starting after school until 5 p.m., Feb. 21, at Hafen Elementary.

Parents are urged to attend a short meeting at 5:30 p.m. to introduce them to scouting and sign the boys up for an exciting adventure.

Obedience club

Pahrump Valley Obedience Club is offering a six-week basic training class.

Classes will be held at Simpkins Park and sign-up will be at 7 p.m., March 4, at the Bob Ruud Community Center, Room B.

Dogs must be six months old with proof of current shots.

Classes will start at 10 a.m., March 8.

Roads workshop

The Nye County Public Works Department invites the public to attend this year's 2008/2009 Fiscal Year Annual Roads Workshop at 5 p.m., Feb. 21, Bob Ruud Community Center.

All 2008/2009 petitions have been received and will be considered for chip and seal. This is an information gathering workshop only and no decisions will be made by the board at that time.

Free art classes

The Pahrump Arts Council will offer free art classes for young people as a bi-monthly program.

The February classes begin 11-2 p.m., Feb. 23, at the Pahrump Valley Museum on Basin Road.

Two classes will be held. Milo Reckow, a portrait artist and Carol McGovern, known for polymer clay art will teach.

Model train meeting

Train enthusiasts of all ages will meet at 9 a.m., Feb. 23, at the United Methodist Church Social Hall, 1300 E. Hwy. 372.

The meeting is "show and tell." Bring your models, plans, trains or accessories to share, sell or trade.

Golden years luncheon

The Ms. Senior Golden Years USA will have a fashion show and luncheon Feb. 23, at the Saddle West Hotel and Casino to introduce the contestants to the board of directors and the queen's court.

There will be a raffle for the "Big Purple Basket," which contains a three-day stay on Lake Mead in a houseboat, a Valley Electric $50 power credit, wines and a picnic donated by Pahrump Valley Winery, stationary from B & C Printing, Phoenix car detail and wash, chocolates and more.

Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. You do not have to be present to win.

Tickets may be purchased from Ms. Senior Golden Years Queens Court, the Chamber of Commerce and Saddle West registration desk.

The winning ticket will be drawn at the fashion show.

Mammovan

The Nevada Health Centers Mammovan will be offering mammograms in Pahrump Feb. 19 through Feb. 22 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Appointments will commence at 10 a.m., Feb. 19 and they will end at 1:45 p.m., Feb. 22.

The regular hours will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a lunch break from noon to 12:45 p.m.

Coping seminar

Coping with change can be difficult, whether it be from the loss of a loved one, illness or aging bodies.

Pahrump Red Hatters is offering a seminar to Red Hat chapter members 10- noon, Feb. 21, at the Pahrump Nugget.

The seminar will be hosted by Barbie Taylor, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist and other professionals.

Seating is limited to 50 people without refreshments. Lunch will follow at the individual's discretion.

Women's self-defense class

The Nye County Sheriff's Office and Homeland Heroes are presenting a women's self defense class, 8-4 p.m., Feb. 23 and 24, at the Pahrump courthouse on Basin Road.

The class is taught by law enforcement officers.

Learn what to watch for and how to be aware of your surroundings; what to do if an attacker surprises you; how to get away; what not to do and how to neutralize an attacker.

The class is free to any woman who wants to learn to defend herself. You must attend both classes.
