SPORTS DIGEST Raceway to open SaturdayPVT
Death Valley Raceway will open its inaugural season Saturday, with the first race at 1 p.m. The one-third mile banked clay oval will have events for IMCA modifieds, super stocks, mini stocks, classic coupes, 360 sprints, micro sprints, modified minis and Dwarf cars. The IMCA feature will be worth $700 to the winner, if 15 cars start, the track states. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $6 for juniors over 6 and $6 for senior citizens. Children 6 and under are free. From Pahrump, take Bell Vista to Death Valley Junction, turn right, go past Longstreet Inn to the raceway sign and turn right. For information, call 209-5291. PBR May 3 The Enterprise PBR Tour Event will be held in McCullough Arena May 3, starting at 6 p.m. Tickets will be on sale at the Pahrump Valley Auto Plaza at a cost of $17. According to the PBR Web site, part of the proceeds will benefit Lee Akin and his family. Adult softball The Pahrump Valley Softball Association is forming men's, women's and co-ed leagues. RCMS action Rosemary Clarke Middle School will host an A-Team basketball tournament today and Saturday, at the school on Blagg. The Sharks go to Lund Feb. 15 and Ely White Pine Feb. 16, before returning home Feb. 23 to take on Moapa Valley in a four-game set starting at noon. Youth hoops The Pahrump Elementary School Intramural Basketball League will play four games today, starting at 5:45 p.m., in the Ninth Grade Academy gym. Saturday's six contests are slated at J.G Johnson, beginning at 8 a.m. Roller hockey The Thursday Night Pahrump Adult Hockey League resumes action Thursday at the Skate Zone. The standings: Warriors 4-1, Penguins 4-1, Kings 4-1, Silver Bullets 0-4, Sabres 0-5. The Warriors have outscored opponents 53-22, while the Penguins' edge is 41-33, with the Kings at 43-27. Last week's scores were Warriors 8, Sabres 2, Penguins 14, Silver Bullets 8 and Kings 8, Sabres 3. In the 5-to-10 League, the Sharks stopped the Dragons 11-4 as Austin Young scored four goals. Braden Williams had four goals for the Dragons. The Stars topped the Ice Hawks 4-1 in a 10-to-15 game. Want a camp? Maloy stars in ASU track Dominique Maloy, a freshman on the national championship Arizona State University women's track team, has made a positive first impression. In her first meet, Maloy, a 15-time Nevada Class 3-A state sprint champion, ran the 60-meter dash in 7.52 seconds, the fifth-best time in ASU history. Later, Maloy won the 200 in 0:24.42, almost a second faster than the next Sun Devil runner. Maloy, one of 10 freshmen women on the team, is majoring in elementary education. |
