AT TONOPAH FRIDAY Playoff-bound Beatty girls to end Central campaignPVT Beatty's girls have a big weekend in Nevada Class A Central Division basketball. Friday, coach Aimee Senior's Hornets, 5-3 and third in the division, go to Tonopah to play the Muckers, who at 3-6 still have a chance to claim the No. 4 seed in the Southern regionals, to be played Feb. 12-13-14-15-16. A Muckers win will assure them the No. 4 seed, but win or lose, Tonopah is likely to qualify, since Indian Springs, 2-6 and in fifth place, is up against it. The Thunderbirds have games remaining against Central powers Lund Friday and Round Mountain Saturday. Lund (6-2) is the No. 2 seed, with Round Mountain (8-0) at No. 1. Saturday, the Hornets are home against Lund. Last weekend, the Beatty girls defeated Henderson International School and lost 48-38 to Lund. They are 5-3 in the division, 8-8 in all games. Tonopah, which defeated Indian Springs 55-40 and lost 69-35 to Lund, is 5-12 in all games, including a 47-40 loss at Beatty last month. Round Mountain (8-0 division, 15-9 in all games) has already clinched the No. 1 Central seed. The Lady Knights beat Lund 44-35 to sweep that series, then held off Beatty last weekend. Lund (6-2, 9-13) will be the No. 2 seed, with Beatty No. 3. In boys' basketball, Beatty is 4-6, 6-13, after sweeping Henderson and Round Mountain (37-31) last weekend. Tonopah, which downed Indian Springs 42-34 but lost 58-48 to Lund last weekend, is 7-4 in the division, 10-17 in all games. The Muckers edged the Brian Hayes-coached Hornets 41-40 in Beatty last month. Friday's game is the division finale for Tonopah. Lund (9-1, 12-12) is the No. 1 seed for the playoffs, with Spring Mountain (8-2, 14-11) No. 2. Tonopah will be No. 3, with Henderson International School (5-4, 8-13) at No. 4. Beatty, Indian Springs (1-8, 4-13) and Round Mountain (1-9, 3-19) have been eliminated from playoff consideration. Spring Mountain played at home against Henderson Tuesday and will go to International School Thursday. Lund is at Indian Springs Friday and at Beatty Saturday. In the playoffs, higher seeds host first-round games Feb. 12 and 13. The semifinals for both boys and girls teams are Feb. 15, at Durango High School in southwest Las Vegas. The finals are Feb. 16, at Del Sol High in east-central Vegas, near McCarran International Airport. |
