Eight Nye wrestlers advance to 2-A stateTOURNEY STARTS FRIDAY AT LAUGHLINPVT
Eight Nye County wrestlers qualified for the Nevada Class 2-A Championships, to be contested Friday and Saturday at Laughlin High School. Cody Serfoss of Tonopah won the Southern regional title last weekend at Pahranagat Valley Alamo, and is seeded No. 1 at 135 pounds. A sophomore, Serfoss will wrestle Yerington Rite of Passage junior Idees Idees in the championship quarterfinals, which begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The rest of the eight, and who they will face in first-round matches, are: Jordan Cutler, a Round Mountain freshman 103-pounder, vs. Irvin Saldana, a freshman from Spring Mountain; Kevin Valentine, a 112 Tonopah senior, vs. Seth Garrett, a Wells freshman; Robert McCluskey, a 112 Round Mountain junior, vs. Mauricio Escobedo, a junior from Lincoln County; Robert Ashbey, a 125 Tonopah freshman, vs.Battle Mountain junior Robbie Tipton; James Browning, a 135 Round Mountain junior, vs. Antone Allen, an Indian Springs junior; Justin Acosta, a 145 Round Mountain freshman, vs. No. 1 seed Austin Dunn, a junior from Las Vegas The Meadows; Thomas Pearson, a 145 Tonopah freshman, vs. Dustin Sam, a sophomore from Owyhee. At the Alamo regionals, Tonopah was seventh with 101.5 points. Alamo had 184 to win the title, with Ely White Pine at 152.5. Indian Springs 144, The Meadows 129, Spring Mountain 109, Lincoln County 106, Laughlin 71, West Wendover 65 and Lund 0. In the 2-A regionals at Lovelock High School in Pershing County, Battle Mountain won the team championship with 254 points. Rite of Passage had 170. Pershing County scored 128, Eureka 110, Dayton Silver Stage 102.5, Independence 100, Round Mountain 83, Carlin 64, Wells 50, Reno Sage Ridge 27, and Owyhee 27. On Saturday, the consolation quarterfinals start at 9:15 a.m. The championship round begins at 5 p.m. The Class 4-A state tournament is Friday and Saturday at Cimarron-Memorial High School in Las Vegas. Competition begins at 5 p.m. with first-round matches. The championship quarterfinals start at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, the consolation first round is at 8:15 a.m., with the consolation quarterfinals beginning at 9:15 a.m. Championship matches start at 5 p.m. The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association's winter girls soccer regional tournaments resume Thursday. Opening-round games in both the Sunrise and Sunset regionals were played Tuesday at the Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex, located on the Cimarron-Memorial High School campus in Las Vegas. The first-round Sunrise schedule was: Upper Bracket Green Valley (13-1-0) vs. Valley (7-5-0); Silverado (8-5-1) vs. Las Vegas (10-2-0); Lower Bracket Coronado (12-2-0) vs. Chaparral (7-3-2); Basic (6-4-4) vs. Rancho (10-1-1); In the Sunset region, the matchups were: Upper Bracket Bishop Gorman (12-0-0) vs. Cimarron-Memorial (7-5-0); Bonanza (5-5-2) vs. Palo Verde (10-2-2); Lower Bracket Spring Valley (7-2-3) vs. Arbor View (9-2-3); Sierra Vista (5-5-2) vs. Centennial (12-0-2).
