Su Mesa party crashed by deputies

Su Mesa, a popular Mexican restaurant located at 1560 E. Calvada Blvd., was temporarily shut down for the night Friday, Jan. 25, after Nye County Sheriff's Office deputies walked into a party where "numerous" underage individuals were drinking alcohol.

As a result of the incident, the following day Sgt. B. Balding went to the restaurant and confiscated its liquor license.

A hearing to show cause is scheduled for Feb. 25.

Sheriff's office press releases report that at approximately 11:24 p.m. deputies were dispatched to the restaurant for a business check because of a reported party at which underage people were drinking.

The first clue the reports might be true was discovered in the establishment's parking lot where a male was violently vomiting.

This individual reportedly lost consciousness and was transported to Desert View Regional Medical Center.

Things weren't much better inside where officers found a number of people under age but over the legal limit for alcohol intake.

The sheriff's office reported that of all the underage individuals, four were "actively under the influence."

Dep. G. Curtin investigated the suspects and found them to be Ulises Chavez, 19, Christopher Escutia, 18, Armando Jesus Ornelas-Duran, 20, and Luis Flores-Mouroy, 19.

Most of the individuals will be charged through the district attorney's office as minors in possession or consumption of alcohol, but for Escutia, things are a little more complicated.

During the investigation deputies found Escutia had three different forms of identification, all of which had different information about him, including some with a different last name.

Since the officers couldn't figure out who, exactly, Escutia was, he was arrested and booked on the additional charges of obstructing an investigation and possession of fraudulent identification.

The other suspects were charged and released.

In addition, the owner of the restaurant -- Maria Zepeda, 36 -- was told she would be criminally charged with providing alcohol to minors.

The sheriff's office press release showed four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and an additional charge of sales or furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a minor.

The sheriff's office added a message for other business owners:

"The Nye County Sheriff's Office wants you to know that if you allow minors to drink alcohol in your establishment you will be charged and have your liquor license confiscated. To the establishments that enforce the age requirement of 21 we would like to thank you for the enforcement."
