Gingerbread house raffle

The Pahrump Community Library is raffling gingerbread houses made and donated by the kindergarten students at Manse Elementary School.

Each house will be raffled separately. Tickets are 25-cents each or five for $1. The drawing will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 22 but ticket holders do not need to be present to win

Proceeds will go toward the purchase of children's books.

The library has the CD made by the Hafen Elementary music department which includes the song, "Christmas in Pahrump." The song was written by a teacher at the school and it is currently being played on "Coyote Country," a country music station out of Las Vegas. The CDs are $4 each or three for $10.

Proceeds will go to benefit the Hafen Elementary music department.

The library is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Computer users meet

The Pahrump Computer Users Group will meet at 1 p.m. Jan. 5 in the large meeting room of the library.

The program for this month will cover finding information and help on your computer and the Internet presented by Don Norvell.

Mike Erwin will give a presentation on High Definition technology and standards, plus a demonstration of Blu-Ray technology.

Ample parking is provided in the rear of the library and is preferred. Handicapped parking is available.

Focus on food for the holidays

The Family Resource Center provided Thanksgiving dinner for a total of 1144 persons and are expecting twice that number to request Christmas dinner.

Their focus is food for Christmas and most of the available funds in the Christmas account will go toward the purchase of hams, turkeys and other components of the Christmas meal.

Toys will be distributed as they become available through Toys for Tots.

They welcome all donations and food contributions and are encouraging community members to adopt one of the families registered with the organization for the holiday.

Beta Xi meets

Beta Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will meet Dec. 18 at the home of Lilia.

There will be a meeting and a Christmas social will follow.

Republican Central Committee party

The Nye County Republican Central Committee will have their Christmas party beginning at 6 p.m. Dec. 20 at Maverick's on Mesquite Avenue.

Cocktails will be at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m.

Koats for Kids

Mankin's Allstate is hosting the third annual Koats for Kids drive.

Over the last three years, 1,500 coats have been collected and distributed through No To Abuse.

The collection point is the office, 1271 S. Highway 160.

Gunfighter Christmas

The Pahrump Gunfighters will have their seventh annual Children's Christmas Party, noon-2 p.m., Dec. 21 at Dusty Flats, next to the StageStop Lounge and Casino, 100 Stagecoach Road, off of Blagg Road.

There will be a cowboy Santa, music, prizes and refreshments for children 12 and under.

The Cinderella Girls will be taking orders for Marie Callender's pies for Christmas until Dec. 18.

Christmas dinner

There will be a community Christmas dinner served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 25 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

The meal will be followed by entertainment and surprises. The event is free and open to everyone.

Letters to Santa

Santa's mailbox is now open for Letters to Santa.

The program, sponsored by the Pahrump Valley Lions Club, is in its seventh year.

All children through the age of 10 are invited to make their Christmas wishes known by sending a letter to: Santa, P.O. Box 133, Pahrump, NV 89041-0133.

Santa can also be reached via the Lions Club message line at 727-9016.

Because Santa and the elves are getting on in years, be sure to include the name, address, age and telephone number of each child. This will allow Santa's secretary to alert Santa and the elves to respond to each boy or girl individually.

Santa also wants the public to know donations to the 2008 Letters to Santa Program are appreciated and encouraged and can be made at the North Pole, or by mail through the Letters to Santa Post Office box.

On behalf of the Pahrump Valley Lions Club, Santa and Mrs. Claus wish to extend Happy Holiday greetings to everyone.

Toy drive

Sandbaggers Miniature Golf will have a toy drive Dec. 17 and 18, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., 441 S. Frontage Road.

Each person who brings a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots, will get a free round of miniature golf.

Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots season runs through Dec. 20.

Help to give a needy child a merry Christmas by making a donation or cash contribution.

Collection boxes are at Walmart and many other businesses.

The Toys for Tots headquarters is located at 2050 N. Highway 160, Unit 700.

Donations can be mailed to Toys for Tots, P.O. Box 2869, Pahrump, NV 89041.

Volunteers are need to help sort and inventory toy donations and various other tasks.

The "Toys for Tots" trailer will be set up Dec. 17 at Walmart for toy donations.

AGLOW meets

AGLOW, the interdenominational international Christian Women's Organization, will meet at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 20 at the Rock Vineyard Church next to Smith's Food and Drug.
