Bishop Gorman wins Legion World Series
SHELBY, N.C. -- Nevada champion Las Vegas Bishop Gorman defeated Pasco, Wash., for the American Legion baseball World Series championship here Wednesday. The game was postponed by rain Tuesday. Gorman, which finished 75-7-1 this summer, was 116-10-1 in high school and Legion games this season. The high school Gaels were 41-3 enroute to the Nevada Class 4-A state championship and the Legion team won its last 21 starts. Gorman had advanced to the finals by beating Sumter, S.C., 11-9 Sunday night. On Monday, in a game that didn't affect Gorman's appearance in the title game, the Titans ran their World Series record to 4-0 with a 6-1 win against South Richmond, Va. Pasco earned a trip to the finals with an 8-7 conquest of Sumter Monday night. Results Friday Gorman 7, Omaha, Neb., 5; South Richmond 5, Midland, Mich., 2; Pasco 12, Jonesboro, Ark., 3 and Sumter 5, Bristol, Conn. 3.
