First-run movies'BABYLON A.D.' OPENS TODAY AT SADDLE WEST
By CHARLENE DEAN
There has been much skepticism regarding theaters in Pahrump and rightly so. Even though the Pahrump Nugget broke ground on their theaters last week, the theater at Saddle West will come out of the gate with the first movie to be shown here since the old Pahrump Theater closed in April of 2001. In "Babylon A.D.," starring Vin Diesel, Vincent Cassell, Mishelle Yeoh and Melinie Thierry, Diesel plays a mercenary hired to deliver a package from East Europe to New York. The "package" is a mysterious woman who carries a secret that could doom the human race. This is a first-run movie that premieres all over the nation today and Saddle West wants to give locals the chance to see a blockbuster fall lineup without having to go to Las Vegas. Saddle West has reserved two showings for V.I.P. guests only at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday evenings. Normally, the theater will be open to the public at those times. With all the last minute details to oversee, Katie Boyles, a spokesperson from Saddle West has her hands full. Boyles said, "The chairs aren't in yet, but the concessions are pretty well established." Those attending showings of the movie will be able to purchase hotdogs, popcorn, sodas and candies at the bar in the showroom-gone-theater. No alcohol will be served. Boyles said, "We will be running this movie (Babylon A.D.) for at least two weeks." At this time, she is waiting for information on the next movie scheduled to open here. Tickets for the shows will be $8.25 for adults, and children under 10 and seniors $6.50. Saddle West card holders may also redeem player's club points for tickets. After the special schedule for the grand opening and the V.I.P. only showings, the theater will be open seven days a week as follows: Monday through Thursday -- 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday -- 4 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday -- 12:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Sunday -- 12:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The Times will post the movie and the show times in the Friday entertainment schedule.
