School district needs driver

Nye County School District is looking for volunteer driver for the six-passenger Even Start van.

Two to three volunteers are needed. A good driving record is essential and previous bus driving experience is a plus.

Drivers are needed 7:30-9 a.m. and noon-1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Rummage sale

Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church will hold a fifth Saturday rummage sale 8 a.m.-noon Aug. 30 at the church, 1300 E. Highway 372 in the RC building.

The schedule for Family to Family Connection for August is as follows:

Missed economic stimulus package

During the Federal Income Tax season, the Pahrump Tax Aid group offered free tax service to people of the community.

They have been advised that many persons in the Pahrump area are eligible for the ESP, but have not filed.

The Pahrump Tax Aides will offer services to correct this on Friday, Aug. 29 and Sept. 5 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Library Calendar

Free computer instruction is available for beginning-level computer users on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Sign-up in person available at the library.

Classes are: "Basic Computer," "Beyond Basics," "Advanced Basics," and "Genealogy." Check at the library for dates and times.

Shakespeare Made Simple will be held 10 a.m.-noon the 3rd Saturday of each month, Tuesdays 4-6 p.m., is Shakespeare Readers' Theatre Both are free and open to all ages.

Beginning Aug. 4 through Aug. 30, the library will be accepting new school supplies for the Annual School Supply Drive. All items collected will be distributed by Pahrump area schools. Help support our valley's students.

Volunteer training

Nathan Adelson Hospice will have volunteer training classes 9-5 p.m. Sept. 15 and 16 at 1480 E. Calvada Blvd. Suite 900.

The two-day training classes will cover particulars needed to volunteer for the hospice for those who want to spend time with the families, run errands, do office work or work on fundraising.

Nye Goldseekers

There will be a special meeting of the Nye Goldseekers at 5 p.m., Sept. 11 in Room B of the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Mark Chatterton from the Las Vegas Bureau of Land Management will be on hand for a discussion of the concerns and needs of prospectors in southern Nye County and what plans the BLM has for the future.

O-Mok-See

Rising Star Equestrian Association, a N.P.O., is offering another O-Mok-See on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the McCullough Arena.

Sign-ups start at 6 p.m. and the cost is $10 per entry for members of R.S.E.A. It is $15 for non-members.

They will offer time only's for 15 minutes prior to each event for $1 each ride.

Swap meet

TheUnClub Boys, Pahrump Model As and Nye County Public Auction will sponsor a swap meet 6-2 p.m. Sept. 20 at the auction house, 800 S. Margaret St.

There will be a swap meet, hot rods, collector cars and motorcycle parts and accessories.

Admission is $3 and children under 12 get in free.

Those wanting to reserve a swap space, the cost is $15. To register a car for sale, the cost is $10.

Fish Fry

Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church will have a fish fry 4-7 p.m. Sept. 5 at the parrish hall, 781 E. Gamebird Road.

The menu includes a baked or fried fish dinner with fries and coleslaw and punch or coffee for $7. A fish taco dinner including fries and two tacos will be $6. Single fish tacos and clam chowder are $2 each. Desserts will be $1.

Parents of Pahrump Valley High School have the opportunity to get involved.

Nye County School District is looking for volunteer one-on-one tutors for adult education to be available 4-7 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

The UNCE Master Gardeners will accept contest registration for the Pahrump Fall Festival "Giant Pumpkin Contest" until 5 p.m. Aug. 29.

Dress-up tea party

Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church will hold a dress-up tea party for young girls ages 5-12.

The party is 2-5 p.m. Aug. 30 at the church, 1300 E. Highway 372.

Hats, fancy dresses, jewelry, gloves, shoes and other accessories will be provided for the girls to use.

A craft project and a manners lesson is on the agenda.

Seating is limited and reservations must be made by Aug. 27.
