WestCare marks 35th birthdayPVT
LAS VEGAS -- Friday, Aug. 22, marked the 35th anniversary of the WestCare Foundation. A nationwide network comprised of community-based, nonprofit behavioral health services organizations, it specializes in substance abuse and mental health treatment programs as well as behavioral health programs aimed at serving the needs of homeless individuals, veterans, at-risk youth and individuals living with HIV/AIDS. WestCare Nevada, providing services throughout Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Pahrump, and Reno, is part of the national WestCare Foundation network. Founded in 1973 in Las Vegas as a residential treatment program called Fitzsimmons House, or "Fitz House," a therapeutic community treatment modality was adopted that focused on long-term care for hard-core adult male heroin addicts. Within a few years, WestCare responded to the community's need for expanded substance abuse and mental health treatment and made available services to women and individuals abusing drugs other than heroin. Today there are 24 programs offered at WestCare Nevada serving men, women and children. Nevada has the distinction of being home to the WestCare Foundation national office. "WestCare Foundation is committed to delivering high quality and cost efficient services that empower those we serve to transform their lives", said Dick Steinberg, President and CEO of WestCare Foundation. "I urge community members to visit their local WestCare program to learn more about the services we provide to the community." The mission of WestCare is to empower individuals to engage in a process of healing, growth, and change that benefits them, their families and their communities. During the last 35 years the agency has grown into one of the largest and most successful behavioral health care non-profits with more than 1000 employees, 75 programs and an operating budget in excess of $75 million. Each state offers a unique menu of programs and treatment services that respond to community needs, are comprehensive and caring, and are designed to meet individualized needs. |
