FISHING

QUAGGA REMINDER: The Nevada Department of Wildlife is asking boaters to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of quagga mussels from the Colorado River system to other waters.

Thoroughly clean, drain and dry your boat, trailer and towing vessel before traveling to another water.

EAGLE VALLEY

RESERVOIR

Some folks are catching fish and some aren't. That's the bottom line. PowerBait, worms, or a combination of a mini marshmallows and a worm are good bait options.

Periodic thunderstorms and the subsequent runoff will make the water murky at times. Weeds are creating a few problems for shore anglers.

ECHO CANYON

RESERVOIR

Fishing pressure is light and water levels remain low though anglers are catching a few rainbow trout and largemouth bass.

LAKE MEAD

It's the time of year for striper boils. Look for them throughout the lake but especially in the triangle formed by Sand Island, Government Wash and Boxcar Cove or along the beaches.

In the Overton Arm check the islands or the area near Stewart's Point. Cut bait has been taking stripers along the beaches. Catfish have also been active.

LAKE MOHAVE

Fishing has been good to very good for shore and boat anglers near Cottonwood Cove though thunderstorms have made conditions interesting at times.

Fish are hitting at all hours but the most productive time is from late evening through mid morning. Most stripers are small with the occasional larger fish coming in.

Catfish are averaging from one to four pounds. Largemouth bass are taking top-water and shallow-diving lures.

At Willow Beach trout anglers are doing well from the new fishing pier as well as from shore.

Most trout are in the 12-inch ranch though a pair of 6-pound fish were caught late last week. Rooster Tails, PowerBait, PowerWorms and night crawlers are catching fish.

Stripers are taking anchovies and swimbaits. They are most active in the early morning hours.

LAUGHLIN

No Report.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

Haymeadow and Cold springs reservoirs continue to provide good action for rainbow trout. One fly-fisherman reported that he caught several large rainbows at Haymeadow but trout fishing remains slow at Adams-McGill.

Largemouth bass are hitting at all three reservoirs. Don't forget to bring insect repellent with Deet because the late afternoon mosquito hatch can make life a little rough.

URBAN PONDS

Use small hooks and mealworms to entice bites from bluegill and green sunfish. For catfish go with shrimp, night crawlers or stink baits.
