Melanoma Fighters Club "Mandy's Melanoma Fighters Club" seeks two to three preteen and teenagers from each middle and high school in Pahrump to promote melanoma and skin cancer awareness in their school. Wal-Mart Wall of Heros If you have a picture of someone who has served or is serving in the military, and would like a picture displayed on the south wall, bring an 8x10 photo with the first and last name, branch of service, dates of service, and phone number. Add $2 for the frame and drop all the information at the customer service desk. This is a stand alone project not affiliated with any other project or organization. Pahrump Rotary Club The Rotary Club of Pahrump Valley meets at noon every Wednesday in the Pahrump Nugget banquet hall. Rotary members are a dedicated group of people serving in the community. Angels Have Wheels All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease and respiratory disorders and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they may be eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. For information on Medicare eligibility contact Gregory at 1-800-810-2877. Free drug tests Teen Care provides free drug tests for the children of concerned parents and guardians. The test detects marijuana, cocaine, meth, opiates, amphetamines and more. All services are free and confidential. Teen Care provides Christian help for teens involved with drugs or alcohol. Appointments are available Monday through Saturday. Call 727-9911 for more information. Retired/senior program The Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteers need help. This program enables the elderly to stay in their homes by assisting with daily maintenance such as shopping, medical appointments, etc. RSVP reimburses volunteers 24 cents per mile up to $20 per month and carries worker's compensation and excess auto liability on all volunteers. Additionally, volunteers receive training, annual seminar education and appreciation award dinners. To volunteer or get more information, call Jan Lindsay at 751-5282. Model train meeting The model train members of all gauges will meet at 9 a.m. Aug. 23 in the social hall of Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Highway 372. Obedience training classes The Pahrump Valley Obedience Club is taking registration for beginning dog obedience training at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. Please leave the pets at home. The hour-long classes will be Saturday mornings beginning Sept. 6. The cost for the six-week session is $45 and $40 for seniors. Thank you The Short Branch Saloon wants to thank the people who brought shoes and packages of socks for the Love of Kids and Bikes drive. The donated items were delivered to the Family Resource Center and No to Abuse on Aug. 11. It was a great feeling. This drive will be conducted again in January. Donations for Quilts for Cancer Quilts for Cancer volunteers have worked all year to make Christmas stockings for home bound seniors in Pahrump. Two hundred plus stockings need to be filled with nutritious snacks. Volunteers are also working to have a hand-made gift to accompany the stocking which will be distributed in December. Missed economic stimulus package During the Federal Income Tax season, the Pahrump Tax Aid group offered free tax service to people of the community. They have been advised that many persons in the Pahrump area are eligible for the ESP, but have not filed. Masonic family day The Masons will have a family get-together at 5 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Masonic Temple, 281 E. Gemini Drive. All Masons and their families are invited. Beginning Aug. 4 through Aug. 30, the library will be accepting new school supplies for the Annual School Supply Drive. All items collected will be distributed by Pahrump area schools. Christmas rummage sale Our Lady of the Valley will hold a mostly Christmas rummage sale 8-4 p.m. Sept. 12 and 13 at the church, 781 E. Gamebird Road. Job Fair at the Nugget The Pahrump District Office of the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services will sponsor the 3rd annual Job Fair, "2008 - Catch a Career," 10-2 p.m. Sept. 25 in the banquet hall of the Pahrump Nugget. Employers from around Pahrump will be ready to speak with potential employees, accept applications and some may conduct interviews. Job seekers are encouraged to bring their work history resume and dress appropriately for an interview. This is an opportunity to talk with employers and discover what qualifications regarding work experience and education they are seeking. Employers who have not reserved a free space are encouraged to call 751-7253. VFW in August The VFW hosts a swap meet the 2nd Sunday of each month 7-3 p.m. on the VFW grounds. Reservations for a spot are $7 if you bring your own table and $10 if you rent one from the VFW. There is free parking and the Marine Corps League are serving up the hamburgers and hotdogs for a nominal fee. The American Legion, Riders and Auxiliary meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month 6-7 p.m. The MOC/MOCA Cooties meet on the 3rd Saturday at 11 a.m., followed by the VFW Auxiliary at 1 p.m. Wednesday -- poker, noon; Friday -- dinner, 5-7 p.m. Check the menu at 727-6072. Church location change The Way Baptist Fellowship has moved to 2031 E. Gamebird Road, Suite C. There are still two services. The first service will remain at 9:30 a.m., and the second service will begin at 11 a.m. at the new location. The youth group will meet 4-5:30 p.m. beginning Aug. 25, at the new location.
