Now in her 20th year as a Nye County teacher, Vicki Benizio, sets up her third-grade classroom at Floyd Elementary School.

Bold colors on the walls and floors of the newly completed Floyd Elementary School will welcome students in Kindergarten through fifth grade for the first time on Monday.

However, teachers have been hard at work preparing their bright, state-of-the-art classrooms for two weeks.

The advanced technological aids at the new school are seen in every classroom -- from interactive white boards allowing teachers to create large, colorful images and project them instantly at the front of the class to built-in ceiling speakers enhancing teachers' voices so they can be easily heard throughout the entire classroom.

Veteran teacher Vicki Benizio has taught for 30 years and Floyd Elementary is the second brand-spanking-new school she has helped open in Pahrump. She also helped open Mt. Charleston Elementary. The difference this time is: "I will have two grandchildren here," Benizio said.

With the brightly colored hallways, brilliant sunshine streaming through tinted windows and the whimsical themes teachers are adding to the classroom by way of posters, banners and cartoon characters, the stage is set to welcome Pahrump's youngest citizens to their day jobs.
