Parking room demanded for new Homestead projectPVT
Amos Cavallo was granted a rezoning to neighborhood commercial for lots bordering on a new commercial development on Homestead Road just north of Dandelion Street, with the condition a back lot fronting on residential zones be used only for parking with a landscaped buffer. Cavallo Development is close to completing a two-story, 17,600-square-foot commercial/office building. Cavallo showed plans to construct an identical building next to it at 2780 S. Homestead Road between Cactus and Banyon streets. Planner Steve Osborne was concerned about other possible uses, once the property was rezoned. Gabriel Adame said his company had to give up a 20-foot easement for 600 feet along Homestead Road, 12,000 square feet, and needed the additional parking space. On other planning matters: * Ron and Christine Murphy received approval for a rezoning of 30.8 acres from a combination of light industrial and neighborhood commercial to heavy industrial where the Murphys have operated a gravel pit east of Higley Road. Attorney Tony Celeste spoke on behalf of his client, Pahrump Villages, owners of 160 acres just south of Murphy's property. He said Pahrump Villages may be interested in developing commercial or higher density residential development and may need something more than the current zoning in the future. * Shu Chuan Lee and Thousandaire 80 LLC received approval of a zone change from light industrial to general commercial for 80 acres southwest of Thousandaire Boulevard between Mabes and Hacker streets, next to the proposed Focus Property Group project, without discussion. * A hearing on a development agreement with Corrections Corporation of America for a new private detention center was scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Sept. 16. |
